Barbara Clough

I am attempting to write a book collecting fans' stories about the day they met Brian Clough. Today I was delighted to receive a lovely card and note from his widow Barbara pledging her support so I can get Nottingham Forest to put an appeal in the matchday programme.

She rang me a few weeks ago to tell me she was happy for me to do this and was such a delight to chat to.

A lovely woman.

All the very best Jamie....Hope it's a sucess.

I found a signed copy of Brian's autobiography a couple of weeks ago in a charity shop...£2.25.

"He who Dares" in this game.

Sounds great Jamie.I met Brian twice when he brought Forest down to Plymouth.
They were both for friendlies and the first time it was raining.
As Brian came in I asked him for his autograph and he said ' No I'm not signing out here!' just as I was thinking he'd refused me,he carried on walking by saying 'Come on inside lads, and we'll sign them in the changing room'
About 4 other collectors and I looked stunned before thinking 'we're not turning this down' and followed him inside with the Argyle doorstaff saying to us 'You can't come in here!' to which Brian just replied 'Come on lads, follow me'
He had all the Forest players which included the likes of Stuart Pearce sitting down in the changing room for us to walk round one by one to each player to get them signed.
Brian was the last person I asked to sign as I wanted him to sign Peter Taylor's autobiography 'With Clough By Taylor' which Peter Taylor had signed when he'd come down with Derby.
Brian took the book from me,looked at the cover, and then passed the book back to me unsigned saying 'He never told me he was writing the book,I haven't signed one before, and I'm never going to sign one!'
After a quick 'I'm sorry Mr Clough,I didn't know' I quickly gave him another photo to sign before leaving the changing room feeling very happy but almost scolded at the same time.
That was well over 20 years ago,but I still remember it like yesterday.
To follow that up,I'll try to find and scan the picture he signed for me the second time I  met him-I'll leave you all in suspense as I feel it's quite unique!
