As part of the new eBay “certified refurbished” programme, we’re making sure that customers can find and buy like-new refurbished items in some categories with confidence, and reduce “item not as described” returns for qualified sellers.

From 16 February, 2021, items listed as “certified refurbished” need to meet our updated item condition requirements and be approved by our certified refurbished team. Qualified eBay sellers are permitted to use the new item condition, “certified refurbished”, in their listings, including in subtitles, product descriptions, and titles.

“Certified refurbished” program qualifications

To qualify for the “certified refurbished” program, items must meet certain condition requirements including that:

  • You are the manufacturer, or
  • You are a manufacturer-approved seller, in which case you will need to provide evidence that you are authorised to resell the manufacturer’s products
  • Your inventory meets “certified refurbished” condition requirements
  • You are in good standing, have average or better service level metrics, and follow all eBay policies.

If sellers are not part of the program or their inventory doesn’t meet all of the above condition requirements, items should be listed as “seller refurbished” and sellers can’t use “certified refurbished” or any similar terms on the listings’ title, subtitle, description, and/or item specifics.
