Fraud Sellers on eBay website.

Hi Team, I have a serious concern on eBay trust & safety for buyers because as per my one of recent transaction, the eBay seller is openly doing fraud and I don't see any helping hand from eBay side. eBay is simply pull his hand in terms of policy while they should be responsible for their sellers and should have rights to take direct action on their sellers to protect the buyers money.

eBay sellers offers to pay the money via paypal using eBay messaging system and later refuse to sent the item and no refund. This is purely a loophole in eBay system when anyone can join as seller and do the fraud on the trust of brand name like eBay and even eBay don't take any precautiony action to stop this kind of fraud.

This is rediculious.

Please be aware of eBay sellers as those are not seems to be authorized eBay sellers.

buyers need to understand that they aren't protected if they don't pay through the listing properly,

paying through messages is against the rules and you shouldn't do it,

if you do, you won't be protected and you will lose your money and the item

there is nothing ebay can do to stop buyers being stupid and falling for the oldest scam in the book

EBay is a magnet for fraudsters, both buying and selling.

Buyers are actually much better protected than sellrs. But you MUST read and follow eBay's procedures.

When you buy something on eBay you MUST pay through eBay's checkut and pay by PayPal to be covered by eBay's money back guarantee. This gives buyers very strong protection if items are not delivered or don't match the description.

Most buyers who are scammed on eBay haven't read or followed eBay's procedures correctly, to qualify for buyer protection.

There are fraudulent sellers (and buyers) on every website. That's why Ebay has the Money Back Guarantee which contains clear information on what buyers must do to be protected here. So read it - better late than never. It's on every listing, and in various other places across the site, so there's no excuse whatosever for you not having read it before. That you failed to do that, went your own merry way instead, and now bizarrely blame Ebay for your failings, is what I find ridiculous.

The fact that you got suckered into paying via a means that voids your Buyer Protection is nobody's fault but your own. If you haven't already done so read up on eBay's policies relating to buying on the site and familiarise yourself with the rules so that you dont get taken for a fool again. If you abide by the rules then you should be able to get your money back if something goes wrong; however, if you insist in proceeding with a sale in a way that voids both your eBay and PayPal buyer protection then you can kiss goodbye to any chance of being able to get your money back from the seller. The seller must be laughing by now given that he/she knows full well that you've got no hope of being able to force him/her to refund the money that you paid for the item.

Hi All, I understand that it's a trap for me and I already paid for it but what eBay doing to stop such scammers and not protecting buyers even when they can take strict action against sellers and catch them easily based on their contact details available with eBay.
The sellers are taking advantage of eBay platform and grasp the buyers confident to pay via PayPal directly. All these fraud happens when buyers trust on Brands like eBay and buy with confidence.
Why eBay don't authorize their seller before selling any item and take action for such frauds to stop them on their website? Also eBay should have control on sellers in term of holding sellers deposit or blocked some amount on their business account.
i understand nothing will come out of it and fraud will continue as is if eBay will not take strict action for such sellers.
I am putting question on eBay's action of fraud sellers listed on their website?

If you paid through PayPal for goods then you have PayPal buyer protection.

the accounts are hacked, the person you pay isn't the holder of the account, ebay do their best to stop the hackers,

but the whole time buyers don't complete the transaction through ebay properly they are on a losing wicket

the fraud you describe would not have happened if you had paid properly,

you say you paid with paypal, as long as you paid for goods you can open a case through paypal

if you used the friends and family option you can't get the money back

This is always a good escape of companies hiding the fact behind their policies but never looks for improvement even knowingly when such frauds are happening via their website. Hope you are replying from eBay side, so i don't expect any help or sympathy from you.

I really thanks for your suggestion and definitely admit my mistake but at the same time it was happen due to trust in eBay. I was in impression that sellers on eBay must be genuine and authorised by eBay also on top of it he was doing all the communication via eBay messaging and paid all initial transaction as communicated.
Yes, I have paid thru PayPal and I haven't used friends and family option. It was a proper purchase transaction for eBay item and initiated via 'Atbs Photography'. He initiated the refund 2 times but both the times transaction got cancelled after 7-8 days that's why it took so much of time to report it to eBay.
Can you please suggest if this case can be raised as fraud with PayPal if seller has issued the transaction 2 time but got cancelled?

you need to contact paypal to sort it out,

ebay cannot 'vet' every seller, that would be impossible,

that is why they offer the money back guarantee, but you have to follow the correct process when you buy to be covered by

I understand my mistake but why eBay not doing proper KYC for their sellers? it's an open invitation from eBay to do fraud with their buyers and even don't see any pro-active action for these kinds of serious issues.

People trust on these brands because of safety and security but whenever wrong happens they just try to escape from there or hide behind their policies.

Why every-time eBay put everything on Buyers stupidity and its their platform to protect the buyers from cheaters but looking for your message, eBay definitely promoting frauds and this will continue with other buyers.

It's a fraud with me because of eBay platform, so eBay should will be responsible for it.

the protection is there, you just have to use it,

you cannot expect ebay to protect you when you don't do anything to protect yourself

Not at all, eBay already aware these kinds of frauds on their platform but they very well known that this always a profit for them and if anything goes wrong, it will be buyers loss as they are already ready to escape behind their policies.

Who cares the buyers and eBay is watching these frauds just for their sake of money and business. That's why eBay keep the flexibility open for sellers to easily join their website, do the fraud and leave easily as they know nothing will happen. Even the same seller can join again with different identify and trap the buyer and do the fraud confidently.

In any case, its always be in favour of eBay and it won't be wrong saying known open scam on eBay.

Anyways, I am going to raise this issue with UK finance authority, not for my money but the kind of unfair trade practices followed by eBay,

@mahme_8701 Sadly and to add to your gloom the idea of reporting to the UK Finance Authority [presumably Financial Conduct Authority] will not work as they deal only with registered bodies. EBay is not; Paypal is.

I know FCA don't deal for these issues and eBay is also not registered under 'financial ombudsman service' but I am going to raise it as Unfair trade of practices with Citizen Advice.
