Open return request - Doesn't match description or photos

Hi All

Just a question on how these open return requests work.

Sold some speakers, vintage wooden. Hi end type sold for £500 pounds. Sent fully insured which cost me $45 pounds, i had only charged £25 pounds.

Listed as used.

Took good high quality photos of the condition - stated in description to check the photos for condition.

The buyers issue is that, where the speakers have the front covers which can be removed, the wood is a darker colour the the rest of the speakers, talking to the audio people, that's a common thing for vintage speakers if the front covers are left on, which is how a lot of people have their speakers and lots of speakers the covers do not come off.

At first the buyer contacted me saying they were not happy and i had misled them by not stating that there was a darker wooden colour behind the speaker cover, and they sent some photos showing the discolouration (Which show the same front as what my picture does) and they would be happy if i give them £100 pound back.

My issue is that the photos i had on my listing show the front of the speakers with the cover off and you can clearly see the colour difference. I did state back to the buyer that you can clearly see the condition of the speakers and that in the listing it states to check the photos for the condition.

I also stated that if they were not happy they could return them to me. Since i'm easy going i have no issue with that.

They responded by saying i would need to pay them the return postage fee of £45 pounds, since i had misled them.

With all the conversations between us they would respond to the fact that i had shown the condition of the speakers and kept saying i had not mentioned the discolouration in my listing.

I informed them that they would need to pay for the return.

The buyer is now disputing the descriptions using the (Doesn't match description or photos), and saying i had not mention this and sent a photo of the speakers with the front covers off.

I see this starts of as a automatic response from ebay, and at present i have only the options of giving them all their money back and paying for the return.

Since i will not willing pay for the return shipping, do i just wait until ebay get involved and how long does all this take etc.

Sorry but if the buyer opens a not as described case YOU THE SELLER has to provide a Reply Paid Tracked Label and on return you refund in full.

You need to read the Money Back Guarantee which is on every listing.

Buyer only pays return postage for Change of Mind Returns but if they open a NOT AS DESCRIBED CASE you pay, and ebay will enforce this if the buyer escalates the case.

Ifebay get involved then you get a Defect and no refund of the selling fee.

May not seem fair but that is how it works.

On the ebay open return request its showing the courier and the tracking number, is this what the buyer has got for the return. Since the message i have is that i can refund now or wait until the buyer returns the item.

if you refuse or ignore case, ebay will refund buyer with your money and they keep speakers.
if you want item back, issue label through case and refund when received,
if you don,t want item back, just refund.
Ebay never see item, but always beleve buyer, so seller will always lose out.

You are not going to win unfortunately.

Just issue a label, get them back, and relist them.
