Question Re: Possible Scam? £2000 in Selling on eBay DND

Could this be a scam?

Provided you post it to an address registered with Paypal it's probably safer to post it to a UK address than to Canada. Cheaper for you too, if the buyer uses eBay's money back guarantee. Although the buyer in Canada would be beyond the reach of the British courts if the item they returned wasn't the one you sold, which happens. Selling on eBay is all about knowing and judging the risks.

For exactly this reason, your listings are likely to be attractive to scammers. Anyone who's willing to post £1,000+ items by ordinary economy post is either not worried about the risk of loss or damage in the post, or naive about the risks of selling on eBay.

Your listings suggest that you may also not know about the easy scam when items are collected and the buyer pays by Paypal. This scam has even been exposed in the national press, but still continues.

For the value of the items you sell, think about following this answer centre for a time. It may open your eyes to the risks sellers face here.

Hi , I have received payment for 2 items into my paypal account.

The seller is listed in Canda but wants the items delivered to Mailboxes etc in Taunton Somerset.

Could this be a scam?

Thanks

It could be a holding depot for items to be then sent out from there to the international buyer.

Royal Mail are strongly advising not to post to Canada direct because of major delays, all due of course due to Covid. I believe GSP has banned the country too. So this is a method for Canadian buyers to still buy from eBay.

Is that the address on the Paypal transaction? Only post there if it is clearly showing on the Paypal transaction.

If not, then send a cancellation request citing problem with buyer's address.

You only post to the address shown on the Paypal payment. If the address is in the UK, saves the buyer a lot of money in transport costs and proof of delivery to the UK address protects you against cases of Not Received.

I must admit that I don't like your "Economy Delivery". Are you sure that if lost or damaged you would get ANY COMPENSATION, but you would still have to refund buyer in FULL.

You need a FULLY TRACKED AND INSURED SERVICE. If you don't protect yourself no oneelse will.

Hi, Thanks for your respond. The delivery address is the same on PayPal transaction as it is on ebay. The trouble is that a persons name appeared on the Paypal transaction. When i googled this name it took me to Canada and an article of an ebay scammer of the same name for fraud in 2010. He could be unlucky i guess, but seems to much of a coincidence. Thanks for your feedback, Much appreciated.

'mailboxes' is a company that packs and posts items,

(I assume for an item of that value the buyer wants to make sure it is packaged to survive the overseas journey)

so as long as the buyer chooses mailboxes as the delivery address when they pay there is no reason not to send it to that address, just make sure you use a tracked service.
