INRs are a nightmare for sellers on low value items, but if ebay would make it so only tracked items were open to INR requests, this would eliminate buyer scams and encourage buyers to pay for tracking.

Thoughts?

You only need to read on here for a few days to see that the scammers would have a field day.

The number of sellers who seem happy to post a £1000 watch by 2nd Class Mail would increase the risks as in some cases now they get away with it with genuine buyers, but under your idea they could guarantee losing everything.

Why should buyers pay for the sellers insurance - if sellers are too lazy to claim off the carrier?

Why should buyers pay extra for insurance which is solely for the sellers protection, not the buyer.

Thoughts? Ebay will not think much of your idea.

scammers would vanish, make tracking optional, but nno track means no neg option.
If they are selling somethong worth £1000 with no tracking they are idiots

beacuse at the moment false inrs are far too high, you cannot blame the seller for a inr scam
Buyers woldnt insurance, they could use the sellers fb to decide to buy or not

the point is that around 85% of inr claims are false
