Hi, can someone please tell me what an EAN number is and if an item listed as new doesn't have one does it mean its a fake?

An EAN number should only be used for BRAND NEW items being sold by a Business Seller. Private sellers would only be selling Second Hand items. If used it means that all the details would be added from the Ebay catalogue.

The fact that one is not provided means very little, either seller does not know what it means and it is easier to click Not Appropriate. You can use Google for meaning but E stands for Europe and N for number. A Article.

A quick web search will tell you what it is (European Article Number). And no, it an item is listed without one, it does not mean it's fake. It just means that the item doesn't have one, or that the seller has chosen not to include it in the listing.
