Hi. I opened a item NAD case for a bag. I gave a heads up to the seller before I opened the case and she indicated she wouldn't be helpful to resolve.
I escalated the dispute to eBay as seller didn't respond and got a refund.

The seller then contacted me to send the bag back. I said she needed to send me a returns label but I thought that ideally she should have done this before the case was escalated. Seller has now asked me for an email or phone number for the return.
Before I give her any details is this the correct process? Why is she asking for these details? I'm obviously happy to send back but I'm not paying the postage. Thanks

If the seller wanted the item back then she should have asked you to return the item via the case and issued you with a prepaid eBay Returns Label so that you could return the item to her. However, given that she didn't do so and you had to escalate the case to eBay in order to get a refund the seller revoked her right to have the item returned to her by failing to deal with the case properly and leaving it for eBay to sort out. Therefore, you can do with the item what you like - keep it, donate it to a charity shop, chuck it in the bin - the choice is yours. However, you're under no obligation to post the item back to the buyer, but if you want to do so work out how much it's likely to cost you to return the item to the seller. Once you've got a postage quote for the return postage costs send the seller a message and ask her to send you a PayPal payment for that amount. If she complies then you can use that money to buy a label to return the item to the seller and post it back to her, although if she doesn't agree to do this then don't return the item to her, as there's no point in paying to return it with your own money if there's no guarantee that you'll get the return postage costs back again.

As m25jet says, she had the opportunity to supply a label. but didn't use it.

I suggest you tell her what the return TRACKED postage would be and that if she sends you the money by Paypal as a Family and Friends payment (then no fees deducted) to return the bag by the xxth January, you will return the bag, otherwise after this date you will donate to Charity.

It is up to the seller, they had the chance and blew it.

The seller failed to voluntarily do as required by Ebay, so Ebay forced the refund. That is the end of the transaction as far as Ebay and the payment processor are concerned. Anything that happens now is between you and the seller to sort out. And note that, despite what some responders may tell you, you can't just ignore the seller's request to return the bag. However, the return will have to be at the seller's expense.

Few sellers will send a buyer a PayPal payment to cover return postage, as the buyer could simply keep that money and the item. So tell the seller to supply you with a suitable postage label, and within 30 days. She can buy one online from the carrier of her choice, and email it to you. Tell her too that if you don't receive the label within those 30 days, you will dispose of the bag as you see fit, as you will then be legally able to do.

Thank you - and thank you to everyone who has responded. The seller has just sent me a prepaid Hermes label so I can return. I'm obviously happy to return the bag as I have my money back, I just don't want to pay the postage.
