Question Re: Postage costs co in Buying on eBay DND

I actually messaged the seller to ask if by not combining postage costs did that mean my items would all be posted separate as I could totally understand the reasoning behind that but no the seller has told me all items are being posted in the same parcel. The only reason for not combining postage this time is that hes unhappy with the prices items sold for , he expected to get more.

I do realise I should have messaged to ask about postage combining but just presumed as he’d previously combined he would again.

I’d totally understand if he was posting all items individually but his message back to me clearly states all will be in one package from hermes.

Hi all looking for a little advise please

ive recently won 29 items all from one ebay seller all via auction

All are reasonably small items so I'd say 3-4kg's max the seller stated delivery would be via Hermes in his listing

there was no details to say combined postage wasn't offered and stupidly I just presumed there would be combined postage. Especially as I'd purchased 2 items from same seller last year and postage was combined then when I asked no issues.

So as hes sending Hermes that would cost £5.99 for 5kg and under parcel I'd have expected to pay no more than say £8, allowing a little to cover packaging and the 10% ebay fees.

However seller has been quite rude and acused me of being really cheeky by asking for combined postage

apparently because ive won these items for less than he would have wanted to get for them so me asking for combined postage is totally wrong hes saying.

Thing is postage is coming to £59.70

When I was totally expecting to pay no more than say £15

Ive never dreamed of backing out when Ive bid /won items but really frustrating being expected to pay so much postage

would you say its me who's at fault for not messaging seller first about combined postage

or seller for not listing the items at a higher start price if he wanted more money for them

thanks just wondering

You should have checked before buying but seller is out of order charging that much. Tell them cancel transactions. If they are business sellers they have to accept change of mind cancellations. If they do Unpaid Item cases you can ask ebay to remove them.

That is OTT for the sellers mistake in listing too low. Expecting high prices by starting low is wishful thinking now.

Seller has not even considered the impact of 29 negative Feedback and 29 low stars would do to his ratings.

You can ask seller to cancel but if they are a private seller then they are not obliged to do that, but the alternative of 29 unpaid cases would mean a lot of work for seller when his position is indefencable.

would you say its me who's at fault for not messaging seller first about combined postage

Yes, it's you who are at fault for not checking with the seller before buying. Sellers don't have to offer combined postage, and not all do. EBay itself doesn't combine postage for items delivered using its global shipping programme.

Sellers have good reasons for not combining postage. EBay requires them to provide proof of delivery for every item. Many sellers prefer to send items individually, with separate delivery records. This is safer for buyers too. Suppose that postage is combined in a single parcel, and one or more items are missing. How would you react if eBay refused you a refund? You couldn't claim not received, because the tracking record would state that the items were delivered. And you couldn't claim not as described, because you wouldn't be able to return them.

You shouldn't just assume that your seller is out to make a profit on the postage. Provided he actually does pack and post each item separately, as you paid for, you will have no cause for complaint.

Incidentally, don't even think about leaving negative feedback because the seller refused to combine postage. This would be removed at the seller's request, and you would be warned about violation of eBay's feedback policies. Buyers are not allowed to neg sellers because they won't do something that eBay doesn't require them to do.

Sorry previous reply above should have been for red_magpie ,

Thanks John its a business seller so hence when he first messaged back to say he wouldn’t combine , I asked would all be arriving individually as presumed it would be the only reason ,
But no his reasons that I’m getting a bargain already so should be happy with that
But once postage is added I’m definitely not getting a bargain.

I don’t want to end up with unpaid item cases on my record, so I’m hoping the seller will at least meet me halfway

Thanks for your help

Sounds to me that the seller does combine postage and any other day, would have, but because his items did`nt fetch the money he hoped, he`s useing the extra postage to make an extra £40ish.
Problem is, your stuck between a rock and a hard place, because relly, you should have checked first and not just assumed, but if you don`t pay, you end up with all those defects on your account.
If it was me, i`d insist that they are all posted seperate, but i`d put money that even if he agreed, he won`t!
The best way to look at it, is does it work out that even with nearly £60 postage, your still getting a good deal on all the items combined, if yes, then let it go and be sure to ask and check next time 🙂
