Authentication certificates

Hello,

I wonder whether anyone can assist with this. I am considering selling some of my autographs on EBAY. However, I have seen references to obtaining authentication certificates from companies which will review an autograph and compare it with their records, and issue certificates if appropriate. Is this correct? How much should I pay? Can anyone recommend a good company? Are these authentication certificates considered necessary when selling / buying autographs via EBAY to weed out fakes? Thanks for any assistance you can give,

i agree if people can fake the autograph , they can fake the certificate.

hi ,

save your money,authentication companies will take your money and many top companies have authenticated fakes.

it wont increase the value of your graphs,the real collectors will know the difference between real and fake anyway.

just list clearly,offer a full refund if buyer not happy,if theres any more help you need,please message me and i'll gladly help you in the best way to realise a fair price selling on ebay...though values are rarely as expected.

there are even some authentication companies now have their certificated banned by ebay.

Hi,

I have been selling autographs for 23 years now on ebay and I have recently had 2 items removed because ebay said they were counterfeit. I have had them both checked by one of the UK's leading autograph dealers/authenticaters who has confirmed that they were genuine. When I questioned the reason for their removal they said that the items didnt have a COA, to which I replied that COA' s weren't worth the paper they were written on unless issued by an approved dealer, they suggested I get them PSA approved in future which I believe costs a minimum of £25.00, when most of my items sell for less tha £10 -£20 it is not really financially viable. I would suggest you use Autografica for authentication, Garry is a top bloke

Mainly I sell on but all my stuff comes from a small number of UK auction sites and I do check everything before listing

I agree entirely, and neither can anyone unless they obtained it in person so as I said all that in general a COA is is an experienced opinion on the likelihood of the signature being genuine it can never be a guarantee
