I have mentioned this before but just putting it out there again.

Adding manufacturer details to items is very long winded. I would like to be able to add different manufacturer details into the system and then, when listing an item, simply select the appropriate manufacturer from the list I have already populated. This would save an enormous amount of time and would also add the benefit of automatically updating all exisitng listings if a manufacturer changes some of their details.

Hopefully this should be relatively simple for a dev team to complete and would make an enormous difference to sellers.

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

Is there any more information on how eBay/Pitney Bowes are applying tariffs re the Global Shipping programme and certain categories? As I pointed out last week, CDs & vinyl fall under "information materials" and the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed on September 2 that these audio formats are exempt from the new tariffs because of this. I imagine there are many other sellers like me who are holding off resuming shipping to the States via the GSP until there is clarification.

Sunday Deliveries?

Hi Dave and Marco

Hope that you are both well. Just a quick question, is there any particular reason why the Estimated Delivery Dates shown to buyers suggest that they might receive their item on a Sunday?

I only post using Royal Mail, and I'm pretty sure that they don't deliver 2nd Class or 48hr Tracked items on a Sunday, and yet, depending on which day I post, the EDD often shows that the item can be expected to be delivered on a Sunday. (This happens on both Simple and Standard Delivery options).

Here's a screenshot of a recent sale, showing that the buyer can expect their item between 7th September (Sunday) and 9th September (Tuesday).

Cheers 😊

From looking at this very quickly, I reckon this is related to the dynamic way our estimated delivery dates are calculated. As in, because that is earliest day (the 7th/Sunday) and not the latest (the 9th/Tuesday), and they are estimates, I'd say that is working as designed. I'll flag your example just in case just to confirm, once I get confirmation, I'll let you know, but I am pretty sure that's it.

It would be interesting to find out if this is 'by design'. I think that most sellers would agree that if informing buyers that they can expect their item to be delivered on a Sunday (or, indeed, a Bank Holiday) is by design, the design is flawed, regardless of whether the Sunday is the earliest, or the latest, delivery day.

Unfortunately, the forums are littered with sellers who have received complaints from buyers who have not received their items on the dates specified by eBay. The word 'estimated' does not seem to register with some buyers!

As EDDs are dynamic, it would make more sense if the programming only allowed for working days, not every day, if that is the case 🤪

Hi mygaras, thanks for your question.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi marco@ebay

Many thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your reply, mygaras.

I understand where you are coming from, which is why I am flagging it. However, I am pretty sure it is related to what I mentioned above, but once I get confirmation, I'll let you know. 👍

On our business account we are one of the few sellers left who still use auctions as the business model for selling. Unfortunately we are reducing our business on eBay and switching more to traditional auction houses which use online auctions platforms.

Not because of prices or fees, but because eBay are incapable of banning scam and time-wasting bidders from their platform.

Last weekend our auctions were attacked yet again by three (different) users. All three we've previously blocked on multiple other accounts (some of those accounts were banned by eBay for fraud/abuse) but the users simply come back the next week with a new account using a slightly different name and an address in a slightly different format and the whole thing starts again.

Ebay presumably think this is perfectly acceptable behaviour, but its not as it impacts everyone. When you have auctions with multiple bid retractions the end price is affected as the previous high bid would have put many bidders off bidding. Similarly when items are relisted due to serial time-wasters the relisted items are viewed with suspicion by many, and invariably make less money (usually allowing the previous winner to buy it again cheaper on their next new account).

We have to waste a lot of time dealing with this, relisting items, and dealing with the inevitable negative feedback these accounts leave, when we don't send the item to someone we know from experience will make a fraudulent return.

Now these are not new people these are the same batch of users that keep reappearing doing the same thing time and time again.

Contrast this with our sale room experience the week before, where all items were paid for, and there are no fraudulent returns, because that platform has an effective policy that bans scammers permanently.

Cheers 😊

Hi mygaras, thanks for your patience around this.

I've been confirmed that this is not a technical issue, and it is related to the way our dynamic estimated delivery dates are calculated. We've passed on the feedback on the difference between business and non business days deliveries, so this can be taken into consideration.

Thank you,
