12 month Guarantee on a purchase

Hello.

I purchased an Oakcastle CD 100 CD player on September 7th 2025 and it stopped working last week - after 9 months. When I contacted the seller, the reply was that it did not provide a 12 month guarantee/warranty period. I have spent a long time in consultation with Oakcastle regarding this situation and they recommended I contact eBay about my dissatisfaction, which I have found very difficult to do, hence this message to the community. Do eBay not provide 12 months guarantees/waranties if a product becomes faulty in such a short time?

You cannot report this to eBay as they do not offer warranties or guarantees on items, just that they are just as described on receipt. If they are not, a buyer has 30 days under eBay's 30 day MBG, Money Back Guarantee policy, to return the item for a full refund.

You are too late to claim a refund from eBay, and unfortunately too late to claim from your payment provider as most offer a 120 day buyer protection policy

If purchased from a registered UK business, who offered a guarantee and is now not upholding this, then turn to Citizens Advice for your next steps, if you wish to take this further.

Why would you expect them to? eBay makes it clear in the user agreement that the seller is entirely responsible for the item sold. eBay even warns buyers that they do not guarantee the quality of items for sale here, or that they will be truthfully described, safe or even legal. Would you have bought this from a shop that stated this?

There is a link in every listing to eBays own money back gurantee. However, this only applies to the condition of the item on delivery. Any claim must be made within 30 days, after which eBay will have no interest, whatever happens.

When buying from online sales platforms like eBay do please read the actual terms and conditions, not make assumptions about the protection provided.

Do you not even understand you do not buy from ebay, you buy from sellers on ebay.

Any warranty given is only as good as your ability to enforce it.
