You will need to list items with 'free delivery/seller pays'.

A Simple Delivery label will be issued by Ebay. You will be charged for the label and you will need to access it to check the buyer's correct address which they chose at checkout.

The tracking will update automatically to the Simple Delivery tracking.

You can't change the tracking, although you can contact your buyer and give them the correct tracking number from the postage you buy.

Then, within 14 days, you can claim the cost of the Simple Delivery label back from Ebay. They may take a while to refund and repayment is not automatic even if you don't use the label. (This is all on the Ebay SD pages.)

I've got some jewellery I want to sell but after reading the 'simple delivery ' terms it seems jewellery isn't covered - but I can't opt out? What's the best thing to do?

If you have selected the correct category, then simple delivery should not be offered, and you could select CUSTOM POSTAGE, Special Delivery.

The issue is that, if you list jewellery for over £20, even in 'fine jewellery' which is specifically gold and silver jewellery, often with precious stones, Simple Delivery overrides your custom postage and you cannot offer Special Delivery.

Until maybe 6 months ago, jewellery was not eligible for Simple Delivery.

Then, it became mandatory for jewellery over £20.

At that time, I asked the Community Team, in this forum, if it was now covered and was assured that it was.

However, the policy/information pages have never changed and still state that jewellery can't be sent with Simple Delivery (even though sellers can't offer a different option!).

Most of my jewellery is under £20 so it's not an issue for me.

The odd thing I list over £20 automatically defaults to Simple Delivery and I have used that without issue several times.

If I sold an expensive item - for me, that would be over £100 - I would use Royal Mail Special Delivery, absorb the extra cost myself, and claim back the cost of the Simple Delivery label. (Only possible if an item is listed with freepost/seller pays.)

So how do I claim back the simple delivery cost? Or can I just not use the
label?
