Simple delivery ebay recommended postage

I have a dictionary that weighs approx 1.56kgs ebay is recommending 2kg postage.

Now bearing in mind my husband does an absolutely grand job on packing to prevent any damage this may go slightly over the 2kg with the box and the packing.

If this exceeded the weight once packed would it still be eligible for the 2kg postage that ebay is recommending or do they not take into consideration packing.

The problem with simple delivery is that you do not know the correct weight is until after you have packed and it is a lot of faffing around to have to ask the buyer to cancel and re purchase and I would not want to put the buyer to all that inconvenience.

Also the difference on the cost of the postage is £3.38 to £6.65 as I have put it at the upper postage to avoid any issues with the parcel being delivered and there being excess postage to pay, which I would pick up the tab for and again I do not want to put the buyer at any inconvenience.

As you can appreciate this is quite a difference and I think this is putting people off purchasing the item.

Any thoughts ?

In theory it should be OK but we hear a lot of stories of buyers being charged extra at the other end, or of parcels being refused at the post office. It's better to package the item first and then select the correct postage. Personally I wouldn't put a book in a box, it shouldn't need that level of protection. Maybe a sturdy padded envelope or brown paper with some extra card.

Unfortunately bearing in mind what a perfectionist my husband is this will be packed in a box but thanks anyway.

I have packed this up and it weighs 2.090 kilos ebay recommended 2kgs would you get away with it if they did get a surcharge who would pay it

If at delivery buyer was asked to pay more, then many would refuse and just open not received cases to get a refund.

If buyer paid the extra, they might expect you to refund them, and refusal could be reflected in feedback.

Even though the problem would no doubt originate with ebay, buyers would blame the seller.
