Does anybody know why if I sold an item for £330 I would only receive £316 into my Ebay account?

It's probably ebay's buyer protection fee. Details here:

Could be any number of reasons, for example you might be looking at the price including the buyer protection fee.

In your account there is a section that breaks down each sale, and another that breaks down each payment to you. Only you have access to that information.

It would help to know which item it was, as there is nothing showing as sold for £330!

All details of transactions are shown in “payments all-transactions”. All receipts and payments are shown there so you can work it out for yourself.

The buyer protection fee was paid by the buyer & on the list for my fees the final amount I should receive is £330. Not £316.01 as I have actually received!

Thank you for your help & if you know how to contact an actual person at Ebay, please let me know.

Did you receive an offer of £330 from the buyer?

If so this would include the buyer fee, look at the offer you received from the buyer and it will show what the buyer offer was and below that what you will receive

Yes he paid £330 which is on my payments as what I would receive. Nothing
else to be taken off as the buyer pays for protection!

You can find out what the deduction was for yourself and don't need to speak to Ebay.

The link below will show all of your transactions, payments, deductions etc.

However, I don't think you need to check.

You had a camera for sale (maybe the same one?) which finished on 12th April which had lots of bids but didn't sell because there was a reserve.

There is a non-refundable fee of 4% if you set a reserve. So, if the reserve was £400 (I am guessing?) then 4% of that would be £16 which is the amount that has been deducted from your sale on 13th.

Just to add to jckyll957's brilliant deduction and answer, if you add any of the following optional listing upgrades, they are all charged the second the item goes live, and payable sale or no sale.....

Reserves: 4% of the set reserve ( maximum £150 per item)

Subtitles: £2

Listing in 2 categories: 35p

Gallery Plus: £2.50 ( free for clothes and shoes)

Listings with duration 1 - 3 days 35p

As a tip, before clicking on the final List Item With Displayed Fees button, glance just above it, it should read £0.00 Listing Fee.

If there is a fee amount listed there, you have selected an upgrade, and if you wish, it gives you time to scroll up and remove the payable upgrade.

Another tip, if I may ! 🤗

Don't use Reserves, as you've found out, they're the most expensive upgrade, and to be honest totally unnecessary.

Just list your items for the lowest amount you are happy to receive, it cannot sell for less. and if it doesn't sell, adding no other upgrade, there'll be nothing to pay ! 😊
