When a buyer makes an offer which is accepted and then they don't pay do they get a well deserved defect?

Yep, they do, but only if you instigate it.

eBay allow buyers 4 working days to pay. They also send a reminder to pay after 2 days.

If this timeline passes with no payment, you can cancel the order citing Buyer Has Not Paid.

This gives the buyer a deserved strike on their account, if they gain another , they will not be able to buy from the majority of sellers on eBay for a full 12 months, sellers who have blocked 2 strike non payers.

Thanks for that, but as the sale isn't showing in my orders I don't have anything I can report on. The transaction showed as awaiting payment but as the four days have passed it's just shoing as 'offer expired'!

I don't think they do get a defect since Ebay changed the offers process.

Really, if it is an offer made and accepted, there is no detrimental effect on the seller if the buyer doesn't come back and pay, as now the item remains on sale.

If another buyer comes along, they are able to purchase the item, even though an offer has been accepted because it remains for sale until the buyer pays. You don't have to relist the item and it remained visible to other potential buyers while the offer was live.

Personally, I would block the buyer concerned.

It sounds to me as if you ticked the box for immediate payment required so unless paid item has not sold.

If an offer is made and accepted, with no immediate payment required, I think the unpaid process would still apply.

The listing should still be live if the buyer accepted your offer and hasn't paid.

If this is the case, just block them.
