I purchased a car recently , the car was advertised on Ebay and paid privately in full to the seller, but was told there was no logbook due to having private plates on the vehicle, but no problem get a V62 form from the Post Office and tax the car, which is what i did today and the Post office declined payment and I should ring the DVLA to sort out.

The DVLA said they can not do this as the seller has not informed them of the sale, but to send off the paperwork to the DVLA with payment and I should get the logbook back in about four weeks and in the meantime I was not allowed to drive the car.

My question is does this sound a fair way to do business?

There is no ebay protection for vehicles.

Any issues are between you and seller.

Personalised plates can be transferred or put on retention immediately via DVLA website.

Seller should have done this and provided you with paperwork with new reg.

Thank you for your response, this is a difficult position I find myself, the seller will not respond to my calls or texts, all I need is the log book number and then I should be able to get a new log book, that is according to my friend who is in the motor trade.

The V62 form from the DVLA states I can't use this form till 4 weeks have past before I send the form off, then it will be another 2 weeks before I get the logbook, meanwhile I can't drive the car at all.

What a disaster, but thanks again for your comments most apricated.

Regards Malcolm.

I have now contacted the seller, who was away on holiday for a few days, who mentioned a company that deals with such issues (TaxGuru) for a small charge taxed my new car and said the logbook would be about 4 to 6 weeks, which is normal for the DVLA ,the time on my computer to fill in all the details was about 10 minutes, and because this was at 10pm at night, it would be actioned on first thing in the morning.

I got a text the very next day 9.15am all done, wow I was amazed.
