Inpost returning item

Hi, my buyer didn't collect an item delivered to an inpost locker on time and it is now being returned to me. They did contact me saying they had been away but thought they had a week to do so. They tried to collect yesterday but obviously it wasn't there. I think they have to wait until I have it back before proceeding? Not sure what happens now, simple delivery was used. Thanks

To be completely honest I don't think anyone really knows what happens in this situation as ebay handles refunds for item not received when simple delivery is used.

I would tell the buyer to open a claim and see what happens.

They did not refund the buyer as its deemed delivered.

That's good to know. It's similar to click and collect then when delivery to the C&C shop counts as delivery for seller protection, only with simple delivery it's actually ebay protection as they are liable for the refund.

If you do get the item back you might want to consider a partial refund.

Ebay customer support has refunded the buyer

I believe its now being returned but I dont hold out much hope with inpost doing that.

What confusing and contradictory messages!

Can you confirm that you did use Simple Delivery? If so you should just have had an email from ebay saying the customer reached out and as it was Simple delivery they would deal with it.

Message from buyer was she wasn't getting a refund so she phoned them to complain. She tried to collect item after notification it had been returned due to time running out. She has since been refunded. Am sure buyers get notification to collect like I did. It was simple delivery yes item is on its way back and i am not at fault now. My head hurts with it all. The money is still in my balance so perhaps it will stay there, I have no idea. But thank you
