It's not dishonest and it doesn't breach any eBay policy.

The postage cost is shown on the listing. It doesn't have to be the exact postage cost.

I am not sure what the correct way of dealing with this is. I have contacted the seller suggesting there has been a mistake with the postage charge and have had no reply. Even allowing 50p for the new padded envelope saying the postage cost was £6 and the costs only being a max of £4.50 is dishonest. I thought eBay was quite strict on this sort of thing but if the seller does not reply what should I do? I have not sold things myself and am only just begun to do so which is why I have now looked at the Royal Mail website which says "Royal Mail Signed for 2nd Class £4.00". I look forward to receiving any advice anyone can give me about this.

Lots of assumptions there

Where I live there are no bargain shops & a padded bag can easiy cost over £1

Add to that the seller does not receive the £6........they only get £5.16 after eBay & Paypal get involved.....

On that basis alone P&P was not excessive

it's Postage & Packaging

it's not just the price of the stamp

the seller advertises a price to get the item safely delivered to your door, there is nothing 'dishonest' in this,

you agree to that price when you buy the item

We don't know what you bought, but £1.00 would be a very reasonable minimum charge for the cost of time and materials in packing.

That takes you to £5.00, to which you need to add 75p to cover eBay and Pay's combined fees of about 15% on p&p charges. (When the seller adds these, eBay & PayPal even charge a 15% fee on their own fees!)

This has brought your total to £5.75, so you can see that your seller's £6.00 charge was entirely reasonable.

Thank you. I didn’t realise there were Ebay and PayPal fees on postage. I need to revise my own postage charges in that case. I just mailed my first three items to buyers and Ebay’s calculated postage was wrong so the postage was more than I charged so it’s cost me even more if I have to add fees to that.

Never rely on eBay's recommendations on listing forms. They do not know the exact size and weight of the items you are posting, so work these out, factor in fees and packaging, might even be wise to add these to your starting price of the item, as you can see from your own experience, items with a high postage charge, are not received well!. @nicolab3465

The seller quoted a price to get the item to you and you agreed by buying but you label the seller as dishonest and your calculations don't even take eBay & PayPal fees into consideration.

The very best advice is to look at all the facts before accusing others.

You say - “I have not sold things myself and am only just begun to do so “

But your feedback shows you started selling over a year ago.
