Ebay and Brexit

I´ve always used the .co.uk site since my German language stinks to say the least. But now with the pending Brexit I wonder if my account is the same if I use the .com site?

Or can I get the .de site translated into English?

N.B. I´m a Danish user, so it´s imperitive to me to interact and buy within the EU

It should have no direct effect on your account BUT the UK site is really only designed for UK residents & eBay UK customer services can only be contacted within the UK

The .com site is the International site where there is no regional site

The language of a site cannot be changed.....it is set to the language where the sire is registered....so .fr is French, .es is Spanish & .de is German

You are registered in Denmark, so language is danish, you can't change it.

No one knows what will happen when UK leaves europe or even when.

How confusing.

In veiw of what is happening here at the moment I would be surprised if anyone can answer that question with any certainty.

With a bit of true British optimism ( or stupidity ) It will all work out in the end.

I think I would wait and see what happens. You seem to only buy so it should not be a problem only to buy off sellers in the EU even after Brexit

The .com site is the US so not contected to the EU

I dont think there is a way of getting the .de site translated but strange as the other day I was looking at

an email on ebay and up popped a translation box.

You could take a crash course on German

I am sorry I dont suppose that is any help at all but like most of us here we are sick of Brexit

You will probably get many more posts on this as there are a million differents views

crash course in German is not an option.... LOL
but I guess you're right to wait and see what happens.
And just for the record.... I hope the Brit's will come to their senses, and stay in the EU alliance helping to build a better Europe for tomorrow

I guess there's a Danish version of Ebay, but I think the Danish site is rubbish. much more convenient for me to use an English site

Tells us why it is rubbish, none of us will know here, you use the site in the country where it is registered in, and it might be useful to us to know the differences to be able to help others in future.

As advised... with a UK registered account, the default language wiill remain English. ... Alternatives are the Global .com site or the English language/Irish site with € Euro pricing. >www.ebay.ie < Profile >>>>

There is no eBay Denmark.........the site defaults to .com ..........I suspect the population of Denmark does not justify eBay investment in a dedicated site......I think only the UK, France, Spain, Germany & Ireland have dedicated eBay sites in Europe & Ireland only gets it's due to having the headquarters in Dublin 😉

I voted to stay out many years ago and others voted to stay in. Democratic vote so I accepted the decision
I voted to stay in 3 years ago ( a sitting on the wall decision ) and others voted to come out. Democratic vote so I accepted the decision

I totally agree with 1956Glyn the country voted out and that is what should happen.

Whatever happens I am with our European friends and hope we can all work together for a better Europe or a better world.
Perhaps not the place for a discussion on politics

It´s not completely true that there´s no Danish Ebay site. it´s just not registered under the Ebay umbrella. but the Danish "dba.dk" which, as far as I know, is now owned by Ebay only list Danish sellers.
That´s rubbish to me because I often look for things it´s hard to find in Denmark, or they´re much too expensive because of special Danish import taxes and regulations. This is also why the British market is a NO GO for me if and when Brexit happens.

I´m sorry if anyone took my comment to heart as a political discussion. Regardless of my own feelings about Brexit, I was speaking from a purely economical point of view.
Both on a personal lvl and for Europe (UK included) in general.

EBay has been surprisingly quiet about the effects of Brexit, if it happens.

Depending upon the terms on which UL leaves customs duty may or may not become payable on transactions between members in the UK and members in the EU. This would obviously affect you if you only want to trade with other members in the EU.

Trying to use the UK or .com sites just because they're in English would cause all manner of problems. You could use them to search for and view listings, assuming that they're also listed on these sites, but it would be better to actually purchase items through your own, national site. Even if it means using Google translate German to English.

it's a good advice, but it bring me to the 2nd. part of my question.
If I choose to migrate to the Irish Ebay, do I have to create a new profile/registration? or is an Ebay account valid login for all the different versions? (I've never tried to login elsewhere but the .co.uk site)
