They should and if they refuse then ask them why

Is it definately a Royal Mail postage label?.

You will probably need to use a Main Post Office, not a sub in Martins for example.

You can complain to the local Royal Mail Manager, but many small POs make up their own rules as they go along.

It would no doubt help if you actually did your business with your Local Post Office, then there is some beefit for them.
