End auction-style listings early fee

I need clarification on why Ebay charged me £0.60 for an item that I didn’t sell:

10-Jul 07:39:50 Vandoren Bb clarinet reeds, CR102. Size 2
223053067522 Highest bid price £5.99 223053067522 End auction-style listings early fee £0.60

I had to end the auction because I discovered that the item is faulty. I acted as a responsible seller and I find it disgraceful that Ebay charged me for something that I didn’t get money for!

How can I challenge this?

60p is correct 10% Final Value Fee. Ebay don't know that you ended the Auction. As far as they are concerned the Item Sold. Sorry but you listed a faulty Item, and have to Pay the Fees.

Ebay knows very well that the item didn't sell! Sorry but your answer doesn't make sense at all and it wasn't very helpful.
I think it's acceptable that for once I made a mistake and listed an item that subsequently I realised it's faulty. Anyway, I am going to call Customer Service.

By all means call them but eBay simply did what you agreed to in the user agreement. If you end an auction that has had a bid, they charge you as if it was sold.

How do you think eBay knows the item didn't sell? The buyer could gave paid cash, and you could have lied about why you ended it. Not saying you did though.

you cancelled a bid and ended the auction,

when you do this ebay charge 10% of the cancelled bid,

they do this to deter people from ending auctions when they have bids,

this is in the terms and conditions that you agreed to when you listed your item,

you used ebays service to list your item, they found you a bidder, and they want to be paid.

eBay policy is clear.....

If you end a listing for ANY REASON once there are bids then their fees are charged based on the highest bid when you end it

The same applies after the end of a listing for seller initiated cancellations including due to damage/loss & theft
