Why are ebay such a bunch of money grabbing cheapskates?

"From 22nd June 2018, there will be a change to our terms and conditions. You will still be able to collect 1 Nectar point for every £1 you spend on eBay, however the maximum number of points you will now be able to collect on any single eligible item is 300 points"

Isn't milking us for 10% when we sell stuff us enough? Collecting Nectar Points on purchases numbed the pain of being stitched up, I'm afraid ebay are using their position of strength in the marketplace to increase their margins and in turn screw us. We must all turn our attentions to Gumtree and Ebid to remind them who actually earns the money.

Wake up! Are you on a back hander? it is a point of principle of not letting the corporations dictate to us. They are the only people who benefit from this new policy but at the expense of us users. You seriously appear as if you are an ebay stool pidgeon.

As nectar & ebay are completely separate companies, it is probably nectar doing this,
they have done it on other ways to collect points as well.
Seeing as nectar points are a bonus, I will take freebies any day!

There is no basis to say it is Nectar policy, that is speculation. Ebay pay Nectar for the programme insodoing to attract more business. If the arrangement did not benefit Ebay's bottom line they would kick it into to touch. It is an incentive to buyers. Do you think ebay do it out of love for us lot? you must be joking. Its about profit profit profit. It is not a freebie you pay for it out of ebays take. Why not reduce the take? No, this would remove the incentive and hook that sucks people in and induces more purchases.

Nectar are nothing to do with eBay........any reduction will be based on what the Nectar company are willing to offer eBay customers & not what eBay would offer

You could also ask.....how often do you buy things valued over £300 on eBay for this to affect you in the slightest ??

Oh & remember eBay own Gumtree

I am a collector so pay over £300 for items. You need to do some homework on how the Nectar Point arrangement works and must be very naive if you think Nectar are nothing to do with Ebay, they have a business arrangement. You should also question why Amazon withdrew from giving nectar points. Gumtree is free so there is no cashpot to give Nectar Points. They generate their revenue stream by other means. Due to the quality of the responces I am relieved the end of the world is not dependant on the answers. I suggest you all educate yourselves before posting anymore "answers" https://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/jan/06/what-are-loyalty-card-schemes-worth

They are not free! it is part of the ebay take. They wont reduce their take and do away with nectar points because they lose an incentive. I am presently selling an item that is over £300 so there is less incentive for a buyer. Surely you understand how business works. You sound like an ebay employee!

For an item of that value it is not going to be a run of the mill item so I doubt very much that the thought of how many nectar points that could be earned would cross most buyers' minds.

yes it is an incentive to attract buyers but all nectar partners have reduced the offer in some way or other over the years. At one time Sainsburys gave additional points to anyone using their own shopping bags and then one day just stopped doing it. I earned an awful lot of points from that offer but then just had to get used to not getting them. I really don't get why anyone should get sooooo annoyed about something as trivial as nectar points. It's not as if it's a matter of life and death.

And by the way, there are no ebay employees on this forum, just ebay members who give their time free of charge (not even a nectar point per post) to help other members 🙂
