Return policy on having to refund the full amount including postage if the buyer changes their mind

I can’t belive I’m the only person who finds this wrong that the seller is not being protected by eBay. I sold an item my buyer expected to return the item at their expense and only receive the purchase price as the refunded amount as they changed their mind. The buyer completely expected to be liable for both original postage and return. However once the buyer requested the return ebay froze the money in my PayPal account and when I received the item back I was forced by eBay to refund the full amount paid by the buyer including the delivery postage. This is disgusting as I’m now out of pocket through no fault of my own and eBay feel that’s acceptable as it’s their policy. Well the policy should be reviewed as it’s unacceptable practice and biased against the seller.

Example to ebay: If I as a buyer purchase from any other online supplier for example: Amazon, QVC, Ideal World Home Shopping, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Next the list can go on. If I choose to return an item because I change my mind or I ordered more than one for fit, the original postage I paid for my order is not refunded to me on return of my item, I only receive a refund for the original purchase price paid for my item. I have the right to change my mind but that’s my decision and the retailer should not be responsible to refund my original delivery charges. If the item is faulty or damaged on arrival then I would receive a full refund including the original postage, THe ebay policy sems WRONG that they are forcing sellers to be culpable for all postage costs even when the buyer by their own omission just changed their mind, ebay is the only organisation I can find that makes the seller accountable for the original postage cost and that’s wrong where is the sellers protection against a buyer just saying I don’t want it anymore. Ebay need to allow sellers the option to refund the purchase price only based on the buyers reason for return I see why a selder is responsible for a change of mind. I have lost money now through no fault of my own whitch seens unfair.

Your example is completely wrong. Those retailers have to refund your original postage under consumer law. If they haven't been doing that for you, take it up with them.

The buyer Is responsible for the return postage.

Ebays policies apply this law to both business and private sellers.

Wow the law is at fault here then if this is now the case with shopping online, I certainly haven’t noticed when I’ve shopped online and decided to return something that I have ever received my original postage cost back. I haven’t returned anything for a number of years now as I make sure it’s what I want before I buy but this has never always been the case so I stand corrected as I’m clearly out of date,

Do you know when did this change in law? It has not always been the case as I know with the retailers I mentioned, I’m probably going back about 10 years but they never refunded the original postage and packaging costs if you changed your mind.
