Fees for setting a reserve

Does anyone know if it’s right that e bay are charging me for setting a reserve despite the fact that the item didn’t sell. Having checked their policy I cant see that it’s clear. Thanks.

Hi yes it is true. 4% of the reserve price set. A warning comes up just before you click submit.

A reserve price is the lowest price you’re willing to sell an item for. Bidders can’t see the reserve price, but they’ll see that a listing has a reserve and if it’s been met. The reserve price option is only available in an auction-style listing format. If bidding doesn’t reach the reserve price, you’re not obligated to sell the item.

There’s a fee for using a reserve price, which is charged even if the item doesn’t sell.

Reserves are listing upgrades not selling fees.

You are told the cost to list before you commit the listing live.

It does tell you on the seller fees page, and on eBay's page about using Reserve - If you add a reserve price to your item, you'll be charged a reserve price fee.

Plus, when you send your listing live, you click on a button that confirms that you want to go ahead and list it with the displayed fees. Why didn't you look at what you were authorising?

If you just start an auction at the lowest price you'd be happy to accept it costs nothing.

on the listing form it states There's a fee, which varies based on the amount entered. It applies whether or not your item sells.

you then see the fee, above the 'list with displayed fees'

Yes, there is a 4% reserve price fee, which has to be paid whether or not the item sells.

If your item didn't sell because it didn't reach your reserve price, that's exactly why you paid for it!

Basically, you were asking eBay to forfeit their normal 10% selling fee if it didn't reach the price you wanted, in return for which you would pay them a fee of 4% of your reserve price.

Reserve prices are expensive, and buyers don't like them. It's usually better just to start the auction at the lowest price you would be willing to accept.
