In theory, if you bid and win, pay through the checkout and you will automatically be paying the postage. At that point you can tell the seller to post the item. Sounds good but from what you say, the seller won't post and won't be easy to deal with. In your shoes I'd be walking away from this one.

so this is the problem as I see it

An item I am interested in has a start price of £5 + £2.95 postage nowhere on the offer page is there any other information and considering the postage was fairly low I was in the mood to make a bid.

However I just happened to look at the description which had no information about the item apart from what it is and a note saying collection only,

As a rule if I know exactly what it is that I am bidding on there is no need to go to description but considering the low start and postage I wondered if the item was not all it was cracked up to be maybe broken etc.

So I contacted the seller asking about this apparent anomily and the answer was if you dont want to pick it up dont bid, but the current offer is £5 + £2.95, late bidders last minute or so will think that is a good deal and not know about the collection only in description.

so if I bid and win or anyone else for that matter can they insist on the £2.95 postage

In answer to the people who commented you are correct of course but I can see trouble for somebody down the line
