Question Re: Payment dispute in Member To Member Support DO NOT DELETE

Thanks for the reply. I’ve sold and bought codes before without any issues at all, there’s so many listed so I wasn’t aware of this but I am now. If I was to simply choose to accept the dispute would the funds that are on hold at the moment be returned or would they be taken from my bank account? Might sound like a stupid question but it’s one thing issuing a refund and having time wasted but I don't want to be out of pocket either!

Payment dispute

Hi,

I'm hoping I can have some help please as I hardly sell on eBay and this transaction has been a nightmare. I posted a digital code I received as an offer with an item I bought from a retailer (I now know these aren't covered under eBay protection etc) for purchase which was bought, I couldn't send this physically as I'd received the code via digital format as well and the buyer has apparently opened a dispute with the financial institution saying it wasn't him.

I have a message from him after the purchase asking for the code which I sent as eBay said the payment was made which now they're disputing. I can't provide a tracking number to challenge the payment but I have the screenshots, I'm wondering if anyone can please help or give advice at all?

I'd like to challenge it as I've read a similar story where the seller won this situation because it's strange that he has the code via message with it being digital and I could end up having nothing. I'm not sure whether the codes been used as I don't want to check either.

I spoke to eBay a few times but they haven't been helpful at all. I just need to know how I could provide screenshots and get past the tracking number phase if possible and if I was to just accept the dispute, will I be out of pocket? I haven't received the funds yet as they're on hold but eBay haven't said whether I'll lose money. I don't want to refund the money from my own bank!

thank you

I spoke to eBay a few times but they haven't been helpful at all.

This shouldn't surprise you, as the sale of items for digital delivery is not allowed here.

The only question is whether eBay treats the item as being covered by their money back guarantee. I think they will, as this doesn't exclude items not permitted for sale. I doubt whether a code counts as "digital content", which is excluded.

If eBay decides the buyer has a valid case you will automatically be required to refund them. They ALWAYS require a tracking number as evidence of delivery, and won't accept a screen shot.

You say buyer has opened a dispute with the financial institution, you will lose this case if you cannot show delivery confirmation on top of which you will be charged a fee £14 ibelieve possibly +VAT.

Screenshots will not be accepted, you could try messaging the "buyer" to ask why they have opened a case as you have the details of the transactionand see if they will close it.

Otherwise eBay are likely to refund and you will have no item and no payment.

Hi, thanks for your reply on this. To be honest I just want it dealt with, I’m unsure why it’s been raised at all and I checked the code earlier under a different email and it doesn’t appear to have been used yet but I’m cynical about solving the dispute and them then using it so I’m trying to give the code to a friend to use instead as it’s useless to me anyway, I just thought I might as well make myself a few £ but definitely don’t want it costing me instead! eBay doesn’t seem to want to clarify whether the funds that are currently on hold would be just given back to the buyer though if I was to accept this? I’m happy to accept the dispute at this stage as long as the code is not able to be used, could you advise whether the funds would be just released back to the buyer that are currently being held for 30 days rather than it costing ME money and him having the refund?
