Fake tracking numbers

Hi there,

I recently bought an item on ebay and I then checked the seller I had bought it from (which I probably should have done before). Anyway they had only had their account for a few months and only had 5 stars but they had 100% positive feedback so I was confident. I then checked the Tracking number, it was a royal mail one, but it wasn't working. So I contacted the seller and said tracking number isn't working have you sent item but I didn't get a reply so I kind of accepted the fact I had been scammed and was going to report item not received but the tracking had changed to in transit so i thought I'll wait a couple days and if it hasn't come report it. And when I got home today the item was there thank goodness and I went to leave positive feedback but it wouldn't let me stating "this user is no longer eligible for feedback, try leaving feedback for other users". Which I found bizarre. I have a few questions. A)how come the tracking number wasn't working for me if it changed to 'in transit'?

B) if they were scammers why did they send item.

C) I know ebay doesn't release your money until you've received feedback so how can they now that I was unable to leave it?

D) why was I unable to leave feedback? Have they deleted their account?

My gut feeling is that they were dodgy and I got off fortunately as I got my item.
