Question Re: Bidding in Member To Member Support DO NOT DELETE

how does the EBAY bidding process really work

Click here and enter "automatic" or "automatic bidding" in the search field: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/home

This will take you to a full explanation of how it works.

The important thing to remember is that buyers can keep on bidding up to the very last second. This means that you can't count on being sent an outbid notice or having time to increase your own bid. So on eBay you need to bid the maximum you would be willing to pay, and let eBay's automatic system respond to any last minute bids. It will keep on bidding for you until it reaches your maximum.

I recently placed a bid for an item and was what I thought was the highest bidder right up to when the bidding closed but rather than winning the bid I find out I've been outbid by a pound even though at now point during the bidding process did did I see another did or receive a "you've been outbid" notification and did not see a reserve price notice, so I am a little confused hoe does the EBAY bidding process really work as this is the second time this has happened to me.

a lot of people wait until the last seconds to place their bid,

this stops the under bidder getting an outbid notice in time to rebid

on ebay you are supposed to decide the maximum you want to pay, the absolute max, not the 'I might bid higher' max

then place that as your bid,

the auto bid system then bids for you until you either win the item or are outbid,
