VAT Receipt

I'm trying to obtain a VAT receipt for recent purcahses, the buyer has indicated i need to contact ebay. Your help articles suggest viewing the order details and print out but it doesn't show the invoice.

You are not showing as a business, so why do you need VAT receipt?

Only seller can supply this if they are VAT registered, nothing to do with ebay.

Only a seller who is registered for VAT can issue a VAT invoice and has the obligation to do so only to another VAT registered trader.

I've purchased via ebay and need to claim back as petty cash, my employer needs a VAT receipt.

I requested from the seller to be told that ebay has changed its policy and I need to request directly from ebay not the seller. News to me as I've successfully obtained VAT receipts from sellers without any grief before and I cant seem to get a proper answer

As i said, you can only do this if seller is VAT registered. Contact seller.

Super helpful. Absolutely worth it, why should the company be out of pocket for the VAT? I manage the business, I'm not just buying stuff for the company. I need a receipt for account purposes. Seller has indicated its not them that issues it, I'm questioning that as the help articles don't have the answer. The order details don't have an option to view the invoice as other ones have.

You bought from seller NOT ebay, so only seller can provide VAT invoice.

is the seller VAT registered? if not, they can't issue a VAT invoice, because they haven't charged any VAT

There will be a cost for time and so on to contact the seller that is why I queried whether it is worth it.

The seller is 100% responsible for issuing a Tax Invoice

Draw their attention to Vat Regulations 1995 Regulation 13

13(1) Save as otherwise provided in these Regulations, where a registered person (P)–

(a)makes a taxable supply in the United Kingdom to a taxable person, or

P must, unless paragraph (1ZA) applies, provide such persons as are mentioned above with a VAT invoice.

So if the seller is a taxable person and making a taxable supply to another taxable person he must issue a tax invoice. There is no way to do it through eBay as far as I know so he will have to send it by post or - no doubt - as an e-mail attachment. The essential thing is that the seller is a taxable person which - in effect - means that he is [or should be] registered for VAT in the UK
