It is up to you to weigh and measure the item and make sure you choose the correct postage costs

Get a leaflet from your Post office with the Royal Mail fees or go to RM online for prices

Use a kitchen scale to weigh the item with the packaging

When selling an item how do you include the correct Postage amount. ? Two items I sold recently i was advised by Ebay to charge £3.20 postage only to find in cost £8.79 when I got to the Post Office due to the weight of the parcel. Ebay doesn't seem to take into account the weight of the parcel when setting the postage amount.

ebay don't 'set' the postage amount,

they make a suggestion based on what other sellers have charged for items with similar titles

it is up to the seller to find out how much it will cost to send their item and then change the postage amount when creating the listing
