Wrong part based on wrong compatibility details in description - who pays return?

I ordered a replacement part for car. The seller described it as compatible for our car. I entered the correct make, model, trim, year and the seller's ebay site came back with a green "This part is compatible with this model", and I ordered.

The part on the site was in fact for the previous model and described wrongly or in ebay talk "not as described". After a few emails the seller is now offereing me to return it but suggesting that they are not liable for the returns postage.

Can I / ebay get him to cough up the return postage?
