Question Re: Sign-In Alert email?!! in Member To Member Support DO NOT DELETE

Hello Again - I`ve just signed in ten minutes ago (today) and although I changed my password yesterday (which went through fine) I`m still seeing a different location on my sign in history page to where I actually am? I don`t see any way of attaching a snip I took of the page to let you see this? I`m not even sure it was necessary for me to change my password but did so due to receiving an email from eBay asking me to. The sign in page is also saying Google Chrome when I use Microsoft EDGE browser? I`m really confused by all this and would have been oblivious to it had I not received the email from eBay yesterday regarding my password and that I should change it.

To put this to bed, is there any way to be SURE my account is now safe even though I`m still seeing this other location and browser named when I look at my sign in history? I`m signing in from a location in Scotland, NOT England! Yet that`s still showing when I sign in?

Hi - A little strange this as it`s never happened before, but I`ve received an email from eBay saying I should change my password if anything seems strange. I checked my sign-in and account details and although two sign-in`s from last year state my actual home county/town from 2020, I also see one from Sheffield and the other from Poole in Dorset!? I live in Scotland! However, I did sign in at the time stated earlier this afternoon with the one that states Poole Dorset, so I`m a bit confused. I`m not too sure if anything IS amiss here? Everything seems fine but I don`t want to be changing my password unless it`s absolutely necessary, but eBay wouldn`t send me a Sign-In Alert email if it wasn`t would they? Can anyone give me any advice here or should I just choose to leave things as they are and keep an eye on things? Thanks in advance.

I don't understand how the locations can be so far away. I think it would be wise to change your password, as if someone has got access to your account they could just be checking that they have not been blocked, by logging in occasionally, before fully taking over.

Your account is not very active and if you didn't use it for several weeks, a hacker could start selling without you being aware, until you got a bill for selling fees.

Hi John - Thanks for your fast response. I`ve done a password change and noted it so I don`t forget! As I said before though, these two sign-in `place names` are not where I live which is why I was suspicious when I saw them. They didn`t match my own home county name but as eBay sent me a sign-in notification email alert, I thought it best to act rather than not. It`s the first time this has happened and somewhat un-nerving. I closed my Paypal account years ago also but now purchase items using a debit card and don`t `save it` to the site. I do hope this password change means nothing more than blocking (if any) hacking attempts made on my account.

Something I DID notice over the past few days is, when clicking on the drop down menu to choose a category like Ladies fashion for example, I would be taken to eBay.COM? And noticed the currency being a $ sign rather than the currency being in £ Sterling? I thought it was just a glitch but I`m wondering if I was directed to the US site? Very strange indeed....

UPDATE! It`s okay, I`ve just googled this issue and it seems many other eBay members got these emailsrecently telling them that they had signed in from another device/location. When they checked, they knew they had not. It seems to be a problem with ISP`s or issues relating to locations where a home device may be logged in by the ISP with the user unaware of this and it showing up on their login history. eBay then send out these emails to members alerting them if they notice anything not right, to change their password immediately. This is what happened to me and I now realise although changing my long-time password which was secure enough, I`ve gone and changed it for no reason! But maybe that`s not a bad thing.

So if anyone reads this, you should see an official notification in your eBay messages and not just your email account, to be sure. NEVER click on any links either. Check your eBay account messages for the same notification first and if it`s not there, chances are it will be spam or phishing. Changing your password every now and then isn`t a bad move either if you receive these notifications as it can be a reminder to doble check your privacy and security. Stay safe everyone. x
