Retracting/cancelling a bid

A buyer has asked to retract an offer for a laptop I have for sale — an hour after making it. The reason offered is they've already had an offer accepted on a similar item. It seems clear that they've made two or more offers with the intention of going through with only one purchase. I feel that's incredibly bad form.

It doesn't seem to be what eBay defines as a good reason for accepting a retraction.

I can accept the retraction and the inconvenience... I can accept the purchase offer and pass the inconvenience to the reluctant buyer... I'm in two minds. What would others do?

I'd appreciate some thoughts.

I would definitely accept a bid retraction, annoying that it is.

Rather that, than to end up with a non payer, and then having to wait a minimum of 6 days to retrieve fees and to be able to relist the item.

I would advise the buyer how to retract the bid from their end, at least then, it is registered on their account.

adding to the advice already given -

There's a much worse scenario in that, you force the sale and end up with a not as described case with all the added expense and trouble.

Some great thoughts here. Many thanks! You've helped me to decide to go with accepting the retraction. This doesn't feel like someone I want to do business with. It's galling, but the best solution.
