hi I sold item and posted signed 2nd royal mail

buyer has now stated that item has been collected from delivery office by a person unknown to her, and tracking shows collected by person with different name.

Has anyone had this experience, I am willing to do what I can to help

The buyer has asked me to make a claim from royal mail but its a hassle and already still waiting for another royal mail item to be delivered after 2 weeks.

Appreciate any advice or guidance

You won't be able to claim from Royal Mail as tracking will show as delivered.

It will be, in my opinion, up to the buyer to make a fuss at their local delivery office, and make the claim. It takes some understanding how any unknown person could collect without a card that the postman puts through your box or even know that there was something to be collected.

The claim would have to be based on carelessness at the delivery office, and up to RM to investigate. You may need to supply some information to help the buyer.

Signatures mean nothing as because of COVID signatures have not been taken for months.

I can't see Royal Mail entertaining a claim from you.

They tried to deliver a package to the address you put on the label, left a card at that address and took the package back to the delivery office. Whoever collected would have had acces to that card and would have had to show ID before RM would hand over the package.

Has the buyer said anything about being left a card by the postie?

You have to be hard headed about this. The problem is at your buyer's end.

It's in your interest to ask them to open a case under eBay's money back guarantee, through the resolution centre. This is the correct way to resolve all disputed delivery issues on eBay.

EBay will check the tracking number that you uploaded when you posted the item. (You did upload it, didn't you? If not, do it NOW!)

If the tracking record confrms that the item was delivered (including collected) they will find in your favour and you won't have to refund the buyer. Most importantly, the buyer will be unable to leave you negative feedback, or any already left can be removed.

This doesn't mean that you can't help the buyer in claiming from Royal Mail. If the buyer still has the card to collect it, and the PO gave it to someone else, this is clearly the PO's responsibility. If the buyer can't produce the card, they're unlikely to be able to claim any compensation if someone else got hold of it and claimed the parcel.

Hello and thank you for your reply. The first the buyer Knew was the info from ebay to say it had been delivered. I think the postie may have left card at another address! and perhaps not asking or inspecting ID to closely! buyer seems honest with great feed back ..thanks again Dee

Hello and thank you for your reply. I didn't think I would be responsible, but will try and help sort if possible. The buyer has not seen card and I think it may have been left at wrong address. Buyer only realised when notified from ebay as item delivered. I have emailed her the postal receipt etc and will try and ring RM tomorrow. Thanks again... Dee

Hell and thank you for your reply. I think you are right about making a fuss as buyer did not get the card from postie and I suspect it was left at the wrong address... I will try and find out which delivery office handled it, it just says Kensington and believe there is more than 1. Thanks again and regards Dee
