Sudden case opened by seller

I bought two trousers. One is still in its packaging, new and unworn and the other I kept.

I returned the new and unopened one and all of a sudden a case was opened without any contact from the seller. The seller didn't bother communicating to me at all prior to the sudden opening of the case.

I see a strange message that says that I didn't pay via the eBay guarantee method and am baffled. All these years I have.

So it said that I could appeal for the decision of the refund not to be issued to me and I can also contact the seller, both of which I did.

I stated in the appeal section to eBay that I bought two pairs and returned the brand new, unopened, unworn pair of trousers. I also stated that I paid via the eBay guarantee method. I stated that the trousers were returned in its brand new, still packaged form so what was the case about as there was no evidence provided?

I asked the seller why did they not contact me prior to opening a case and why did they not explain anything to me and I asked them if they could at least have the courtesy to explain what is happening.

What would be your advice?

Sorry makes no sense! The seller can only open an Unpaid Case, if so why did they send you the trousers?

More information is needed to explain what has happened. Why are you returning? Have you opened a return Case?

Did you buy two pairs as one item and if so did you make just one payment?

"the eBay guarantee method" That is just payment by paypal. What shows in your paypal account? If you didn't pay by paypal how did you pay?

I bought, as a buyer, two pairs of trousers. It says on the listing that I can return them for a refund, if they do not suit me. The seller runs a clothes business online on eBay.

I then followed the return protocols.
I requested a return and they accepted it and eBay emailed me a return label.

I returned the unopened package in a timely manner, ahead of the deadline of the return date.

I paid for two trousers, together, in one transaction, via PayPal, as I always do.

The seller suddenly opened a case, without any prior communication. They received the trousers back.

I was shocked that eBay states that I didn't pay through the "eBay guarantee method", when I have! Via PayPal, as I have been doing on eBay, since many years!

Is that clear to you? Happy to explain again, if needed be. Thank-you kindly.

How can we help you when you give so little factual information?

When did you buy these items, and how did you pay? What was the reason for returning one of the items?

How did you return it, and did you use one of eBay return procedures through the resolution centre?

What case did the seller open? The only case a seller can open is an unpaid item case, and you must have paid or they wouldn't have sent you the items.

Can I suggest that you sleep on it tonight, they try to explain things more clearly in the morning.

My apologies. I am dyslexic and in my head I think I am being clear when clearly, I wasn't.

I bought them on the 28th of June and I had been given the option of returning them within 30 days.

As explained I have used the eBay return protocol, which is to go through the return procedures through the resolution centre.

The seller didn't tell me anything. All of a sudden eBay sends me a message via email and this is what it says, nothing else(!!!)

You didn't pay for this item with a payment method that's covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee. We're sorry you have a problem with your purchase.

I mean, what the heck??? How and why??? I have paid via PayPal, as usual, NOTHING different, requested a return and followed through the return procedures via the resolution centre, as normal and all of a sudden this.

The seller doesn't communicate, as I have just seen negative comments in the feedback of his lack of communication. I believe he lied to eBay about the item I have returned and eBay somehow believed him. Without a photograph or evidence. Without any prior message, as a courteous seller would normally do, unlike this seller.

I did pay, via PayPal... Otherwise how else would they have sent the trousers to me???

Please do pardon me of I sound very angry bit it is rather a strange, unusual and unkind manner of treatment...I cannot believe it. I am going to try to speak to a sound-minded customer representative in the hope that they would explain what is going on and I can provide to them screenshots of the PayPal payment and the eBay purchase history showing the payment date and item number, etc.
