Bids or Make an Offer - Auctions

Just put an offer on the above auction type, then decided to go to the full asking amount expecting to win but the auction had changed to just a bidding auction.

Very confusing or am I being stupid?

ebay now add make an offer to auction style listings

you can make offers until a bid is placed

once a bid has been placed the make an offer and buy it now are removed and the auction begins

it means if someone does not want to wait around for the auction to finish they can make an offer right at the begining, if the offer is at a price the seller is willing to sell out they accept the offer and the listing ends,

if the seller thinks they are likely to get more through the auction they decline the offer and wait for a better offer or for the auction to begin
