eBay do not get involved in postal disputes

P&P as long as you only pay the advertised price is not overcharged

P&P is both post (stamp price) and packaging materials

The seller only receives 87p of every £1 you pay in P&P......so your seller only received around £5,,,,,£1.45 is not really excessive for packaging costs etc

I have bought many dresses from Ebay & the postage each time is around £3.50 first class. I bought a dress recently and queried the £5.75 first class postage. I was told Ebay had said that was correct The dress came today & the amount on the post office label is £3.55, the same as Ive always paid. There has been no offer of reimbursement from the seller & i dont expect I will get the extra i paid back from her. Is there any way i can claim this back?

no, you can't claim it back,

sellers state a P&P amount to get the item safely delivered to your door, it isn't just the cost of the stamp

you agreed to pay this price when you bought the item

Sorry but the answer is no,nothing you can do. as ebay dont get involved in postal disputes, and once you place a bid its considered your happy with the terms of that sale,to include the postage costs.

It's called postage and packaging because it incurs costs to post and costs to pack.

For some those costs are greater than others.

If you agree to the amount it's going to cost before you pay, you can hardly monitor the stamp price and gauge whether its a fair representation of the total cost to the seller.

You should also be aware that all those lovely sellers who give you free postage don't actually give you free postage - they simply add the costs they incur in posting and packing to the buy it now or start price.

Also, it isn't true that throwing salt over your shoulder stops you having bad luck - I did it yesterday and got thumped by the man behind me in the chip shop.

I am furious. Its blatant lies by the seller. I thought the item was going to be signed for at that price, or packaged in such a way that the overall cost could be recognised as high by the way it was packed. Instead the dress was scrunched up inside a bag that was way too small & it smelt horrible. The smell was so bad the item has already been laundered. I already had this particular Oasis dress but needed a match to repair a bad tear. I have absolutely no problem paying high postage as long as that is the amount charged for postage. In this case the seller was deceitful, selling an item cheaply & making up for the low l cost by deliberately asking a lot more for the postage. I have never come across this before, never, in all the years I have been on Ebay.

"....... as long as the advertised price is not overcharged..."

I had already politely enquired of the seller if the postal charge of £5.70 was correct as it seemed rather high for a lightweight dress & i was told yes that was the correct price. So yes, i do consider the advertised price of £5.70 was overcharged when the postage was over £2.30 less!

If items are placed in those plastic mailing bags the items can attain, and give off a horrid acrid , smokey smell. Horrid things, that a seller may well not be aware off. @ivycat1!
