There shouldn't be any inconsistency - they should remove any late defects incurred in those circumstances UNLESS you've stipulated a date on which you'll be ''back'' and the buyer receives the item later than your projected latest delivery time following on from your holiday.

What is the point in being given the option of Holiday Settings which clearly state that if a buyer chooses to purchase there will be a delay in despatching if the buyer is then allowed to leave a late delivery defect. There is inconsistency then when I appeal the defect. Sometimes they agree and remove it, other times they refuse.

Yep, unfortunately that is eBay CS for you, sometimes they give out a correct answer, other times they do not.

Keep calling them, try first thing in the morning when the lines open at 8 a.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. on weekends, more chance of Dublin answering you.

you have to change you handling time to reflect how long you are away, the holiday settings don't do this automatically

that way they can't leave late delivery defects

Yes that is what they told me on Live Chat, However, This does not then truly reflect the dispatch time. For example. If I am away for 10 days, I would set my dispatch time for 11 days, But 2 days before returning the dispatch time would then only be 3 days not 11. So the only way to do that to reflect a true picture would be to reduce my dispatch time daily .... defeating the object of being able to go away. The Holiday Setting was given to Sellers to allow us to advise our buyers that we are away. Surely that should be enough?

sadly it isn't enough,

but as it it doesn't matter if you dispatch before the dispatch date you don't need to change it daily, so change the dispatch time and change it back when you return
