Did you think Ebay do everything for free?

Didn't you think to find out what fees you would be charged before listing? Only yourself to blame.

You have 38 Feedback for selling, have you never noticed that you have paid 10% on all sales.

As an infrequent seller you should wait for the £1 Maximum FVF offers before listing expensive items .

Try a normal Auction House, they would only charge about 20% + VAT,, plus a lotting Fee, and the buyer pays 20% as well.

It's your decision whether to list on eBay. Yes it charges fees but it gives buyer and seller a [limited] protection which I do not think that other such sites do. You get - potentially - a vast number on interested people.

If you do decide to stay please be aware that while you can set preferences to allow selling in UK only simply writing that in the text will not do so. Your listing says - in the bit that matters to eBay - "posts to UK and many other locations"

To be honest no I didn’t know it was 10%,but hey if your all happy with eBay & PayPal ripping you off with that amount then good luck to you all ! £42 is a god damn rip off & won’t fall for it again & yes maybe I should have looked more carefully but it’s still scandalous charging that amount & will use gumtree in future & I can live without eBay !

Why not do what all canny sellers do, that is , find out all costs, and add them to your starting price, so in effect your buyer pays, and you are not out of pocket. Your item sold for £420? I'm sure adding that £42 fee to the start price the buyer would have still been happy to buy it.

Or cash on collection, then there are even no Paypal fees to pay!

You sold an item for £420, so your 10% final value fee will be £42. It isn't rocket science!

If you didn't bother to check eBay's fees before listing it, whose fault is that?

You can see all of eBay's fees here: http://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/private/what-fees-youll-pay

While it can be a shock for first time sellers, eBay fees are the lowest they have bbeen for decades

10% is much less than bricks or mortar auction rooms....they can be 20% for both buyer & seller

Regular seller are offered promotional offers on a fairly frequent basis fixing the fees for the sale of each item to £1 -£5 max

You might find Gumtree etc sale prices are lower as there are far fewer customers
