Collection in person

I have a listing for which I'm offering delivery (for a fee), or local collection (free). A potential buyer who wants to collect has informed me that when they go to the ebay checkout, they're still being given a total to pay which includes postage, how can they get around this? Is there somewhere they can select that they want to collect so that the postage charge is automatically removed?

Would you mind telling me if you resolved this? I have the same problem but as a buyer. Postage is £50 for a £50 item (a generator) but it's just round the corner from a friend whe will collect it for me. We can then meet up at our convenience.

Can't remember what the outcome was in my case, but may be worth talking directly to ebay customer services.

The problem is that you dont't offer cash on collection as a payment method.

Cash on collection/delivery is allowed/acceptable using these eBay links ... although another payment option should be offered, you do not have to agree to accept any other alternative payment methods >>

Fargvs who is, I note, a Mentor, clearly isn't abreast of eBay's latest methods.

When I made my offer to my seller I was obliged to add my card details or to select which card to use in the transaction.

What happens next is that as soon as the seller accepts my offer, or I accept the counter offer, eBay will charge the price plus postage. In this case £50 postage will be deducted from my bank account even though I am going to collect the item in person.

Two points arise from this. Will that be refunded? When will it be refunded? In the meantime eBay has an ektra £50 in its coffers earning interest, a process that will no dobut be multplied many thousands of times every day. At the same time I will be short of £50 and possibly even be tipped into overdraft. As far as I can see there is no way to avoid this. It is a shody practice on eBay's part and means I will avoid their platform in the future, possibly even abandon it altogether.

You are correct about Card details and I am aware of eBay options ... Cash on collection/delivery is allowed/acceptable ''using these eBay links '' = Seller has set up the listing incorrectly for a collection item. Please read the links given below.

Generally, when an offer is made through a standard listing, there is no allowance made/available for a Collection item.

Your seller not only didn't list with a collection option, they listed it with immediate payment required for accepted offers.

That's not Ebay's fault.

If the seller allows you to collect they can refund the postage, but they will have to trust you not to claim you haven't received it.
