Hi all, I need some advice, please regarding a watch that I bought a couple of days ago.

I was in touch with a seller who had a watch for sale for £400, so I was asking a few questions about it, and they told me it had just come back from the dealer where it has just been serviced.

I said I was interested but that I was still looking around to see if I could find a better deal.

Two days ago, I found one, from a different seller, and I bought it for £365.

The more I looked at the photos though, the more I had a feeling it was the same watch, as the description also said just serviced.

Yesterday, the seller I had been talking to first, sent me some strange messages asking if I was still interested and not to mess around, so I asked if they had the watch advertised elsewhere, but they said "there's only one seller with my name" and they had advertised it for £380 originally, but had increased the price due to the recent service.

I said I was sorry I had already found another watch and left it at that.

Today I receive a message from that first seller with a screenshot of my purchase of the watch, asking if that was me.

So I replied stating my confusion that maybe they had it advertised on two different accounts, but forgot to amend the one from which I bought it from, but pointing out their previous message saying it had only been for sale in one place.

Now I haven't heard anything back.

I get a feeling they are the person I actually bought the watch from, but unhappy with the price they received, and I get the feeling they're not happy about sending the watch.

I'm thinking about cancelling the sale anyway, but not sure if I should just go ahead and do it or get eBay involved just in case there's something dodgy going on (and maybe cover myself).

Any help greatly appreciated

There is nothing to report to Ebay at the moment, so no reason to contact them.

Don't ask for a cancellation - if the seller doesn't deal with it quickly, your money may stay in limbo for longer than necessary.

Read the email you got from Ebay when you paid and check the latest estimated delivery date. If the seller doen't send the watch, you can report an 'item not received' to Ebay one day after that latest date.

If the watch arrives and it isn't what you expected or if anything 'odd' happens (for example, tracking shows the watch has been delivered but you haven't got it) come back for further advice.

Personally, I would not have anything further to do with the seller you were talking to first.

Only deal with the seller you have bought from - even if they are the same person.

Thank you both for your replies.

The shipping time described in my purchase section is within three days. So far, since my original posting, I've received several contradictory messages from the "first" seller, initially "advising" me not to fall for any scams and to deal with them directly, but when I pointed out the screenshot they themselves sent me with the eBay message from the transaction, and my challenge that the mere fact that they have this message, indicates that either they're the same person managing two different accounts, or they know the person who manages the account I purchased the watch from, they soon changed the tune and said that the reason they were holding off sending the watch was because they needed confirmation from me, and my full address (I requested for it to be sent to a collection box because it's a gift and I don't want it delivered to my house).

The whole conversation is very ambiguous. I've sent a message to the account from which I bought the watch, but so far no replies from there.

I'll post again with any other information.

Hi all, sorry I'm going on about this, but I got a message from the seller of the item I paid for, after I asked when it would be sent, I've copy pasted it:

When I am convinced it is mine you have bought then I will post it please send me your full postal address I will be using royal mail special delivery but I need your address to post it to so it is mine you have bought even though you said you weren't gonna buy it

And this person sent me several messages from what I assume is his other account, pointing out that they want £400 for it, not what I've paid already.

I really would suggest you stop messaging the seller. If the seller is claiming you have not bought the item and they are asking you for your address, they are not following the Ebay process. Ebay will inform them of the sale, your payment will be confirmed even if it is not released to the seller immediately, and Ebay will give them access to your address.

On 21st when you started this thread, you stated that you had bought the watch 'a couple of days ago'. It should have reached you by now.

Find the email you got when you paid. There will be a short range of estimated delivery dates.

One day after the latest estimated delivery date, open a case through Ebay stating you have not received your purchase.

Either you or the seller have got into a muddle with this purchase.

Going forward, either the seller will send the watch and it will arrive, or it won't be sent. In that case, you can use the Money Back Guarantee to get a refund and (in my eyes the only sensible option) have nothing to do with either of these sellers ever again.

I bought it on the 19th and the payment has already been taken from my account. I asked for it to be sent to a local collection box because it's a gift.

I only messaged them directly to figure out if they're going to send it or not, but it appears that they're annoyed that I managed to buy for less than they're asking for on their other account (from which I've been bombarded with messages).

I'm sorry if I've kept asking for the obvious, but it's been a little frustrating too, so I suppose I was just trying to see whether this sounds like something that happens a lot on eBay.

I've had a couple negative experiences before - I'll wait until tomorrow and send a "item not received" to eBay - after which hopefully, once I've got my money back, it's very likely I'll be closing my account, I just can't be dealing with it anymore.

Thanks again all for your help!

So I escalated with eBay yesterday (item not received), haven't heard from eBay yet (apart from the acknowledgement), but today I receive a couple messages from the seller's "other" account, which I'll copy paste. Nothing by the way from the actual account I bought the watch from.

Messages as follows:

"I have had a complaint from eBay saying I haven't posted the item I presume you mean my watch which you said you weren't going to buy from me so that is the reason I haven't posted it please get in touch with me direct I'm going to take it off eBay for sale if you still want it deal with me direct but you did say you weren't going to buy it from me so that's the reason I haven't posted it please confirm these details by counting contacting me direct on here"

And:

At the end of the day you said you weren't going to buy from me so that's the reason I haven't posted it and I haven't had any payment if you still want it then I suggest you get in touch with me"

I honestly can't comprehend how they clearly are receiving all the messages from eBay but choosing to ignore the fact that I legitimately purchased the watch and now blaming me as well

Which watch was it, I tried to find it in sold items on the day you gave and there were 3 but none mentioned having been serviced. Obviously you can't give the sellers name but the style of watch...

All that said, I think getting your money back will be the best move.

After 3 working days (so maybe not until early next week) you will be able to ask Ebay to step in.

Go back to the case then.

Ask Ebay to step in.

The watch on sale would raise red flags for me if only because the price warrants pictures of front, back, sides, watch strap, lights on, off etc. I do that for a £4.50 item. All you get is four very similar poor photos, the last one of which shows a different watch or at least a different strap.

Looking at his purchases I would say he does the "servicing" himself.

However, I can't find your purchase in the sold items by date or description.

You've had the misfortune to get mixed up with a seller who is not behaving as a normal seller. Either don't respond to their messages, or send a brief note back simply saying that the matter is in ebay's hands and will they please stop messaging you. I have done this myself once and the messages stopped. If they then continue to message you, I would report them to ebay for harassment. I can see how it's unnerving and unpleasant, but I wouldn't worry about it - just follow ebay's policy as others have suggested and after the due period of time has elapsed, you will get the refund.

Do you check sellers' feedback before buying? Regrettably ebay now curate feedbacks so that buyers initially only see what ebay want them to see, which is usually favourable. Dig deeper, eg go to See All Feedback and Classic View, sort by Recent, and you should get a more accurate picture of whether a seller is reliable or not.

I just looked at the total feedback, which was at 301 and 100%. But later, on closer inspection, it only shows 7. I don't really use eBay that much, just been buying a few items recently.

What's made the situation more stressful, is that every time I've messaged the seller I've bought from, the replies have arrived from this other account. And they keep telling me to give them my home address (in hindsight, I'm glad I chose for it to be delivered to a collection point now).

That's sensible advice, thanks. But I'm beginning to think now they've got no intention of sending it anyway.

Hi @cop_8477 I found it. I was totally fooled by the fact that he only photographed the strap in the main picture. It looks like he is now using the other account and that he forgot he still had this one listed on the old account, perhaps attached to an old email account as well. He has "done it up" a little and posted it on his new account. Whether he is confused or a scammer he is not a very good ebayer.

I had a not delivered recently and it appeared that all I had to do to stretch out the time to wait for RM to deliver was keep replying to the buyer. Of course I didn't do that, but just in case responding to him is delaying things, as others have said you should stop any communication and let your Item not received case run it's course. If were to ever receive it i suspect you would be horrified by the condition and be raising a not as described case.
