Has anyone else noticed a sharp decline in sales on the various platforms, but especially with ebay?

@diecastmanhattan I would agree with you. My stats have dropped considerably in March and it's nothing I have done differently. I do have sales and views, but a lot lower than normal.

Yes, many have, especially today all day there have been reports of low / no sales.

No answer given as to why, but you're not alone.

I have noticed it on here but on the other 'vintage' (change the last 3 letters!!) site I sell on, I am selling well. I am selling 3 or 4 on there compared to 1 on here.

Thankyou for the reply. I spoke with an ebay agent in Ireland last week, who assured me that my listings, headings, photos, text, were fine. It may be time to close my shop. Paying £90+/month for what feels like a shop in an abandoned mall, is getting quite depressing.

Following on from my previous post, thankyou for the responses showing that I am not alone with a sharp fall in sales recently. As I've just replied to a fellow seller on here - I spoke to an ebay agent in Ireland last week, and she said that my listings were fine - headings, photos, text etc, and although I send offers everyday, there is no response in ebayland. Maybe it's getting to the time to close my ebay shop. What's the point in paying £90+/month, for a shop that now seems to be in an abandoned mall - it's getting quite depressing

Hi @diecastmanhattan I thought your listings would be all die cast model cars from your name, but I can see it is more varied than that. There was a thread the other day about how hard it is to sell CDs with Music Magpie prices and preferential postage rates. Not a criticism of them, just a fact.

The only other thing that occurred to me when looking at your cars is that they don't have "die cast model cars" in the title and you have space. I know nothing about model cars, but if I was looking for a gift i would probably search for "die cast car" or die cast rolls royce" etc. I never search by category. thats just coming at things from a non collector point of view.

It is of course possible that the down turn in sales has more to do with the "orange man baby" than ebay itself. The rise in petrol, power and interest rate rise threats is enough to stop unnecessary purchases.

Have you tried variation listings? That could cut your total listings considerably and enable you to reduce your shop size.

Thanks for your reply, and I appreciate your ideas. I have been selling model cars for over 25 years on ebay, and only recently, found any of the catergories that I list in - Music, Posters, Model Cars etc, have taken a downturn. Not sure about variation listings, but I will look into that, thankyou.

Thanks Roger, Roger - I agree that the country is in a difficult financial situation at the moment, but I feel that there will always be people with enough spare cash around, particularly for low-end items, half of which I include free postage on.

Hi @diecastmanhattan I just bought a fringe cutter with a spirit level attached, so yes, there is still some money out there. I guess it is payday tomorrow so fingers crossed for some sales at the weekend.

I am one of those that rely on ebay to pay the bills. There is some money out there but its very hard to find at the moment. Im find my more specialised items are still selling (and there are higher end priced things among them) BUT they are more specialised and only particular buyers purchase them. Its a case of having to have them displayed and then waiting for the shopper in this instance. Other more general items have taken a hit and its a bit like flogging a dead horse but because I do need the ebay sales, I keep at it. Its long hours and Im tired and its a struggle. I need to stockpile funds too as Im waiting on spinal surgery so I need funds to cover the time I will need to recover and I don’t particularly want to tap my savings as Im still trying to rebuild that from dipping in during covid and paying unexpected funeral expenses when my mum died suddenly in 2024. We do have a website as well but that is more specialised and although its ticking along its not going to allow early retirement, not yet anyway 🙂

I also have a buiness ebay account that I use on .com it use to do ok but hs dropped like a stone in the last 6 months, my websites do ok but I am wondering whether to do an experiment, get the total of my last 3 months ebay fees and use the same amount on google pay per click to see if the yield is higher. I tried microsoft paid advertising last year but it was 90% click fraud and about as much customer support as ebay has!

You are not alone, with the shop fees to pay and now only getting one sale per week it is hard to know what is happening, it is strange though as I have another online shop that ticks over fine with far fewer listings but brings in more so there are some buyers out there?

Thankyou for your response. The state of the world I feel, has partially affected people buying lesser needed items, but there will also always be a lot of people that can afford to carry on. It's difficult.
