Reasonable postage cost - Average Rating low despite using Simple Delivery

I use Simple Delivery for 99% of my sales, free postage for the other 1% but my average rating shows 4.8 for "Reasonable postage cost"

How can it be fair for me to be penalised for a postage rate I have no control over. Anyone suffer similarly and had any joy removing ratings?

I think it may be my EU based customers who are also paying extortionate import costs and unable to combine postage with SD. I know these ratings aren't the be all and end all but I pride myself on feedback and ratings being 5.0

Sellers do not have to use SD for parcels sent outside the UK. You can still go to Royal Mail or other couriers companies to buy and then add the tracking details after posting which sellers can still charge what they like . I am not sure if Ebay add there protection fees to the final price or not as it only covers parcels within the UK.

Simple Delivery in itself is frequently not very good value for money, particularly on small low value items. For example, say you sell a DVD or CD…. Simple Delivery will charge approx £2.72 for an item you could easily send as a Second Class Large Letter for £1.55. Hence, the Buyer who pays £2.72 doesn’t think it is good value and gives you a lower rating.
Basically Simple Delivery is just a Con, and a way for eBay to make money out of postage, and shaft their customers. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi, I agree with you. I don't think buyers can leave negative feed back for SD, but I don't know if that applies to the Star ratings. Ebay won't admit that the delivery date shown to customers is wrong and heaven only knows how the AI will cope with new RM every other day rules.

I have waited a year to get back to a bunch of fives and i could never actually work out which items the "less than perfect" scores came from. What is the point of someone saying that it wasn't perfectly as described, but not even telling me what the item was so i could review it & possibly improve on it.

Still, Ebay would love to have 4.8 on Trustpilot!

I have used Simple Delivery for all my recent sales yet I have now gone from a 5 rating to 4.9 due to eBay postage costs !!!
Can this be changed now ?
How do we ask EBay for it not to be included as a rating that reflects in seller performance ?

Make sure you have ebay communication ticked in your settings and you should receive surveys (I get them frequently at the moment) and you will be able to fill those in and state this issue in their how can we improve box. Be precise and give examples.

I agree that where postage is a price decided by the courier or eBay, it shouldn't be rateable by buyers in Seller Feedback.

Instead word it as "arrgh this courier's extortionate price is a joke!" with buyers invited to rate up to 5 stars = strongly agree 🙂

eBay could display automatically "postage price cannot be controlled by seller" or display that if seller toggles it on (or on unless seller toggles it off).

Not sure why but another large shopping platform displays this on some book and e-book listings: "price is set by the publisher", and eBayers would get used to seeing similar disclaimers.

In truth, buyers can just be fools, shall we say, lol. Just never satisfied. I cover the postage myself, so they see free delivery, but people still complain. Same with delivery times. Never sent an item out late the entire time I have been selling, it usually arrives within the predicted time period. Yet people expect amazon next day delivery. The completely unrealistic delivery dates eBay provides upon a purchase, absolutely do not help.

I agree, I used to use Yodel as their collection point is within walking distance and so I used to drop off my parcels whilst walking the dogs, and they were cheaper than Evri or Royal Mail, now I have to get the car out and drive to my nearest Evri collection point so costing me fuel and time.

Because of postage costs out of my control my feedback for postage costs have gone from a 5 to a 4.9.

I wish we could see who gives *bleep*py ratings so we can bock them and save us both the problem of dealing with each there. I had one guy last month picking an argument about postage (he didn't even buy the item) it's just another headache like the buyer protection fee. I really feel that should be added like postage not rolled into the prices we charge.

Totally agree, it having just happened to me I'm presuming someone is mardy at me not combining postage, though in theory they should be refunded for an unused label after 30 days.

Business sellers the same. I'm below 5.0 from something I have zero control over unless eBay somehow think I can hurry ParcelForce and Royal Mail up with my deliveries.
