Postage Insurance

If I’m selling an expensive watch do eBay now cover the cost of the postal insurance. The maximum Royal Mail Special Delivery insure for us £2500. If I post do eBay pick up the difference ? Thanks

eBay's Simple Delivery only covers up to £750 and watches are not covered by them anyway.

You are responsible for getting the watch safely to the authenticator.

Ebay simply advise you use a 'a shipping service with signature confirmation'.

I'm having the same issue, sold a watch on eBay for £5300 and I even asked if I could take it to the authenticator personally and they said no. Additional insurance is available but with a bit of digging it seems these companies do not like to pay out so it is just a scam.

I don't think any of the main couriers even pay out if they are being shipped to an authentication service, even if you pay extra for the insurance. I brought it up at the open event last year and was met with faces like I had just appeared from Mars. They know its an issue but people risk it either with or without the knowledge.

Seems crazy. So the only safe way is to deliver or collect personally in that case (or take a big risk).

If you had of taken it "to the authenticator personally " how would you have of proved that you had done so ?.

Basically anything over £2500 and you're just rolling the dice. As a buyer you're covered by eBay but as a seller you cant even get 3rd party insurance companies to cover you, they did (or at least just did) only do offer insurance if you send direct to the customer. I understand though as the authenticator is just a warehouse so accept a cage of parcels and dont sign for each one so the chances of one going missing is way too high to risk it.
