Ok, partly my mistake, the CAB page is Scotland only:

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/scotland/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/lost-found-and-uncollected-goods/

In England it is written down in the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977:

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1977/32

Either way, as the item has been paid for, Ebay's role has ended and it has become an uncollected item, regardless how it was purchased. Ebay's auctions are binding and you can't just get out of it by refusing to pick it up.

OP's best bet might be to ask the police or even hand it over to them as a lost item. They will eventually auction it away.
