EBay’s simple delivery

I used eBay’s delivery to send items. Both of which have been lost according to the courier.

Buyers have requested a refund but eBay hasn’t stepped in.

i tried to contact them but can’t seem to get through to anyone that can help.

What should I do?

Are you sure you used simple delivery? If you did then ebay would have automatically dealt with any cases for item not received.

There is a difference between Simple Delivery and buying your postage from Ebay.

As advised, it would be useful to know which items are lost.

The trainers, for example, were advertised with RM Tracked 48 so, if they were not delivered, and you don't have tracking confirming delivery, you would need to refund the buyer and make a claim against RM.

Right ok, the items were golf clubs so had to choose a larger parcel size. Could this be the problem?

I looked at a few of your sold clubs. Postage was £11.99 and £12.99 Evri tracked - so not Simple Delivery.

Thanks, I have refunded the buyers.

eBay have advised me to claim via Packlink so I have just started that process.

Lesson learned I guess.

The shoes were definitely sent via eBay simple delivery as I didn’t state any postage costs or receive any paid in addition to the actual sale.

By the time they were sold they were on Postage of £11.99 and £12.99 Evri tracked.

Did you enter the price of £11.99 or £12.99 when listing (or revising)? If so, that's not Simple Delivery.

Looking at the listing for the shoes, they are listed with RM48 so that is not Simple Delivery.

However, if I do a 'test listing' in that category, starting at 99p, it does say that Simple Delivery will override my custom postage so I don't know what happened with your sale.

SD tracking for RM starts with YA - if you have the tracking for that parcel, check the number.

Also, if you look at the sold items, in 'order details' anything sent with SD has this, with a link to Ebay's Simple Delivery page.

Sellers complain about being forced into using SD, but in your case it would have protected you from these claims and saved you the bother of trying to claim refunds through Packlink and/or Royal Mail.

I've not sold anything with Simple Delivery for a couple of months,
but I think the below is still true:

One way to look at it is-
After the buyer has paid for an item, you get an email telling you this.

If that email contains the buyer's full address, it's not Simple Delivery.
You are then responsible for buying the postage, and any claims for loss or damage - from the buyer and separately between you are the carrier.
You then do not have to buy the postage on ebay. If you do buy the postage on ebay, it is still not Simple Delivery.

If the email does not contain the buyer's full address but talks of "Generate your prepaid label" or similar, it's Simple Delivery. You go to the ebay website and get the label there.
