I have sold an item and feel the postage is expensive. It is only a light item and I have been charged £2.94. I would normally go to the post office and pay and it would be so much cheaper. The buyer (myself is paying the fee).

Is it under a 100g and under £20 in value? Then, it should be exempt from Simple Delivery and you can use your own postage. Custom Postage should be showing . If not , you can use your own postage.

You cannot now add any new tracking, eBay suggest sending the buyer a message with those tracking details. If a case is opened later for item not received, you will be able to add those tracking details.

A refund is sent to whoever paid for the SD label:

If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days

If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.

I'm confused over your last line in your post. If you are the seller how can you be the buyer too and ' paid the fee' ?

Thank you very much for getting back to me with this information. Yes, sorry the buyer is not paying the postage. For future reference how do I delete the simple delivery, as most of my items are light and under 20 pounds. Thank once again for your time.

As has been said you can only opt out of Simple Delivery for large letter items under £20/100g in some sub-categories but you won't know for sure until you list something. If the custom postage option doesn't appear then it's not eligible to opt out.

One option is to list as collection only, add your postage cost to the sale price, then arrange your own shipping. Once delivered ask for 6 digit confirmation code.

Also if space allows add "free postage" in the title and explain in the description that you offer free delivery in large font.
