As a private seller with Simple Delivery you are protected if the item is lost/damaged in transit. That means ebay will pay the refund, not you, when the buyer opens a claim. So ask the buyer to open a return using "item damaged in delivery" as the reason. Then eBay will issue the refund themselves and you keep the original payment. They will not be required to return the item.

Are you the buyer or the seller?

If the buyer, and you bought an item from eBay and it arrived damaged, then if within 30 days you claim from eBay not the postal service used.

Open a return case with eBay citing item received damaged in transit, and you will receive your refund.

If the seller ask the buyer to open a case for item damaged in transit using Simple Delivery eBay will refund the buyer, and you get to keep the payout.

If you are the seller, worth reading how Simple Delivery works, will save you a lot of time and money in the future, see here:

If the item was sent with eBay's Simple Delivery then you cannot claim from Royal Mail as you do not have a contract with them. The contract is between Royal Mail and eBay.

If an item sent with Simple Delivery is lost or damaged in transit then you are protected by eBay, not the carrier. The buyer should have opened a return request selecting the reason 'Item damaged in transit' or words to that effect. Ebay would then have refunded the buyer themselves at no cost to you, i.e. you keep the original payment and nothing actually needs to be returned.

Hi geocad_0, thanks for your post.

Just to confirm the above, if you sent the item with our Simple Delivery program, then you'd be covered for this. You just need to get the buyer to open a case, and we (eBay) will take it from there, and issue a refund from our end.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know, and I'd be happy to take a further look for you.

Thank you,

Marco
