From an earlier post ...

> As this was a Christmas treasure hunt shouldn't the
> money go to a charity that is *really* connected to
> Christmas:

Ah! surely you would be referring to the dog rescue charities
who have so much extra work to do thanks to the annual christmas
influx of abandoned dogs..

Again, despite remarks in ealier post, animal charities are
NOT as well supported as people may presume. Look at the HUGE
annual childrens campaigns on the BBC each year that raise
tens of millions of pounds with ease.
There are no such campaings for animal charities.
Animal Charities are excluded from lottery funding.
Animal Charities receive no government aid.

As a frequent unpaid street collector for animal charities
I can even quote cases of indoor shopping centers where
animal charities are not allowed to collect as they are often
considered to be controversial, and some chains of shops that
do not allow animal charities to collect outside.
(I'll commend Tesco and ASDAs as always being the most helpful)

Animal charities are excluded from many form of revenue.
If you read the WSPA newsletters, you will see that the highest
fundraisers manage only a couple of thousand pounds annually.
They do not have the megabudgets of live aid, childline etc.

Animal Charities DO need help, please do not exclude them.

Definately a childrens charity - but any of the items which are aimed at adults ie: coffee machines should be auctioned off and the money should be spent on toys or medical equipment or something else for kids. I think people will generally be pleased with any childrens charity.

Hi everyone
Would like to start by wishing everyone a happy christmas.
Being an Aunty to a terminally ill quadriplegic teenager, i know how important respite care is, not just for the carer, but also the child.
All parents will understand how tiring it can be, with a newborn baby, totally dependent on you for it's every need. The first few months being the hardest. Now imagine that scenario seven days a week for the next thirteen years and in my nephews case hopefully longer.
I would like to nominate the Butterwich Hospice in Stockton, Teeside, who provide much needed respite, and have been a great help, to my sister and her family over the years.
